‘I wish fireworks were banned – they are so dangerous and it’s not worth what happened to us’

  1. Ahh yes it’s nearly bonfire night so there’s going to be lots of stories saying fireworks should be banned because people who failed to take the safety seriously injured themselves and/or their kids and because people who knew all about fireworks when they bought their dog have done absolutely nothing to train it not to fear fireworks in all the years they’ve owned their pet.

  2. People shouldn’t be allowed private fireworks for what it does to their neighbours, not because of what they might do to themselves.

  3. I do find it a bit strange that there’s no like safety course or anything required for fireworks. Idk how you’d implement that without just making it as stringent as driving, but I was once walking to the shop and a firework wizzes down the street across the roads and collides with the trees. Fortunately it didn’t cause a big fire and I happened to be on the other side of the road. But it would have hit me in the back if I’d been walking in its path. Does seem mental that people are allowed to just do that. And it’s not like anyone can trace it, and you can get in trouble for a firework launching down the road.

  4. We should definitely ban private dog ownership. Several people are killed every year and you don’t need one unless you are blind or a sheep farmer

See how quickly your drive to ban shit leads to everything being banned

  5. I’d be all for just banning the noisy cunt ones. No-one is bothered by lights in the sky, but the literal sound of an artillery barrage is a bit much.

  6. If they launched out sideways he didn’t stand it upright, they say on them which way is up, there’s no way it misfired multiple times sideways; you can’t ban your way out of a lack of common sense

  7. I hate daylight savings…oh wait I missed out…ermm okay let me get in ahead..bloody Xmas adverts

  8. ‘We see around 20 firework burn injuries a year’

    How many dog bites?
    How many alcohol related injuries?

Why not ban these things as well? They almost certainly cause way more injuries than fireworks. Humans need a certain amount of joy, celebration and frivolity in their lives or they wither and die.

  9. kept me awake most last night as there were so many sporadic bursts. Going to be even worse tonight and Saturday

  10. I’m a bit confused on how the fireworks went awry. It sounds like the father didn’t correctly plant them into the ground so the force of the firework going off caused them to tilt.

Either way, not sure it’s worth calling for a ban. His reasoning being there’s a stigma attached to fireworks injuries isn’t convincing either.

  11. Try living in an area in which you routinely hear fire works every day of the week normally from about 2100 till the wee hours ! It will literally drive you insane when you’re having to sleep due to getting up early.

  12. Personally it think we should ban everything. Ban booze, ban music, ban talking , ban sports, ban cars. Ban everything. Its the only way.

  13. Yeah, you have more chance of being killed or seriously injured by a dog than a firework, time to ban dogs.

  14. No one forced her husband to buy fireworks, I believe this was a learning opportunity.

I don’t have fireworks, I am overly cautious when it comes to fire and explosives, so because I don’t bother with them, I don’t have them explode in my hand/face

But anyway, they are from Bolton, fuck all happens there, so at least they had a less boring life than most from there, which is nice.

  15. I dont think they should be outright banned but stricter rules in place to dates and times, it should only be 5th November, The Saturday closest and new year eve imo.

That way people can still have their fun, and pet owners don’t have 3 fucking weeks of hell.

  16. So because these smooth brains didn’t have any common sense in setting these fireworks up, they think that everyone else should have their lives dumbed down to their level. And for what, to avoid some minor burns by having thick dad?

    Get fucked.

  17. I’d rather we just eradicate these pointless polluting, dangerous things and move to drone displays. Have you seen how good those things get?? Some of the ones I’ve seen in China were absolutely incredible. Would much rather watch a dragon chasing through the sky than some idiotic flashbangs.

  18. I don’t think and outright ban is the correct approach, but I think sale of fireworks should be restricted both in who can sell them (no random popup fireworks shops) and who can buy them so they can only be purchased for organised displays.

  19. Im all for banning them for sale to the general public for home use. I dont think there should be a total ban

  20. This looked pretty awful for the lad, hope he’s recovering well.

The story’s a bit weird tho, why would you want fireworks banned because you had a private firework display at home and someone was injured?

It’s not like you can’t avoid being near fireworks – just don’t buy them, no need for a ban?

The other issues around the noise being traumatic for animals and people with PTSD I have a lot more sympathy for.

  21. I don’t mind them in controlled environment. I just don’t get where you get a random one set off at 9am or some cunt setting them off at like 3am. Then I’m all for them being fucked off.

  22. If only there had been a ban to save them from freely going to a shop and choosing to purchase such ‘dangerous’ items.

  23. I mean it’s crazy to me that people are allowed to buy explosives given how stupid the British public is.

My mother in law wanted to do a firework display in their garden one year for my kids. After my father in law proudly told me about the time when my husband was a kid and they had a display where a firework was lit and went straight towards them.

    Thanks but no thanks.

Lady in the article only wants them banned after her kid nearly got killed. She was fine with them before 🤷‍♀️

  24. Poor writing, over half the page filled with spam, ads, and clickbait.

A story about people failing to take safety precautions and now wanting fireworks to be banned because they didn’t use them safely and their son got injured as a result.

  25. I really can’t stand people who think it’s appropriate to stop others from taking part in risky activities just because they are unable to accurately identify risk.

My issue is unlicensed sales, and the sale of fireworks that do not meet our safety standards. Last year I thought my windows were going to crack due to how loud some of them were.
