  1. I do wish whoever spoke to the man had asked him how it got reported that Ronaldo and Mr Beast would be there, if he copied and pasted it from an event in previous years then surely that was not there unless I’ve forgotten when Ronaldo and Mr Beast came to Dublin for Halloween?

  2. Would love to hear from those that ‘heard’ about, I mean exactly where did they hear and why did they believe in something that had no mention in reputable media?

  3. I think it’s a pretty important lesson in the dangers of losing people to the cult of ‘that one aunt you thought was very normal who now cites Facebook as her credible source’

  4. The real MVP

“What appears to have happened, he said, is that one of his team had searched for events happening in Dublin and found reference to a previous Halloween parade. They had assumed the event would also be happening this year and then cut and pasted details from another site.”

With other site being chatgpt.com… my spirit animal somewhere in Pakistan, improved his shift went home for the day …

  5. If my friend came across the website, didn’t know it was fake and asked me to go with them I probably would say yes, agree w meeting place and time and maybe not even research the details because I’d trust their info. Maybe I’d even mention it in work to colleagues or small talk with tourist customers and even more people decide to go with their friends and it spreads like gossip. If they’re the kind of people who don’t listen to radio or news then they might not be suspicious why they haven’t heard about it through local media?

  6. Did no one think it a bit strange that there were no gardai around, no barriers erected, no safety measures in place?

  7. Eejits turning up without checking stuff. Still, I’m looking forward to seeing The Beatles at the Olympia on Saturday at 8pm.

  8. Tbh I don’t get why there isn’t a Halloween parade already.

Like the amount of effort put into say Christmas vs Halloween in this country drives me mental. We clearly can organise big and nice things on a city council level, so why never a thing for Halloween?

Like Halloween is a holiday of Irish origin, it’s culturally very us yet we hardly do a thing to acknowledge it. Compare say to Belfast, went there and they had blow up monsters coming out of different buildings to sell the vibe. Even that minor level of decoration would be appreciated.

Like genuinely why don’t we already have a Halloween parade? Just start making one and organise it the same as the St Patrick’s Parade. Could even organise a few events like they do for the Winter Markets in Dublin, I’m sure there’s a few businesses that would be interested in selling Halloween knick knacks for it, even get a few events for kids to do to draw in more crowds.

Like it all seems very easy to organise since we already do it for other holidays, yet when it comes to Halloween the council’s all just collectively give up in favour of having Christmas events starting two months before the holiday.

  9. “What appears to have happened, he said, is that one of his team had searched for events happening in Dublin and found reference to a previous Halloween parade. They had assumed the event would also be happening this year and then cut and pasted details from another site.”

    Doubt.

    AI-generated slop

  10. Nope, no mistake.

It was a tester to see what could be done with enough information to lure people to one spot with data harvesting included.

  11. So one random free lancer working for a Pakistani based website, makes a mistake and a 1000 people show up for a non-existent parade on Ireland. That’s pretty hilarious.

  12. If they’re embarrassed, how do you think the muppets that went feel?

    Bleeding morto, scarlet for yes.

  13. Whoever showed up should also be embarrassed honestly… You think there’d have been more buzz around a Halloween parade and considering there was never one before most people would come to the obvious conclusion 🤦🏻

  14. Market research for Dublin City Council handed to them on a plate. Surely they have to organise something next year given the numbers in attendance for something that was advertised on one website. Imagine what they could do if they gave it a real push.

  15. Wonder was it the same people in Pakistan that helped fuel the recent riots in England with misinformation it posted on their ‘’news’’ website…

  16. Well if any good comes out of it, is to show there’s an appetite for a Halloween parade.

  17. ” Do you think we would do all this SEO for a joke”

Thats the statement that proves it was a pump out articles genuine mistake. This whole thing is hilarious.

  18. Why would you be highly embarrassed. Just say you punked everyone masterfully and better luck next time

  19. They shouldn’t be embarrassed. DCC should be haha

Either way Derry for Halloween is the spot.

  20. Wouldn’t it just be pretty suspicious to think the City would even allow a parade at 7PM?

We really need to prioritize critical thinking in schools. Civic studies should have programs to teach kids to look for sources online without falling into a conspiracy rabbit hole. Thankfully this was just misinformation of an innocent event. But it shows that people can spread shite malcious purposes too
