PHILADELPHIA (TNND) — A 30-year-old woman who is living in Germany while she is studying to get her master’s degree went to great lengths to vote in the 2024 U.S. election.
Lexi Harder told WPVI she flew 15 hours and more than 4,000 miles — as well as spent $875 — to travel from Berlin to Philadelphia on short notice.
“It’s definitely priceless,” she said. “I would have paid triple that to come back.”
Harder, who is from Gladwyne, a suburban community in Pennsylvania, said she previously filled out a mail-in ballot and sent it in as soon as possible.
The ballot she sent, according to WPVI, made it through customs and all the way to Pennsylvania.
But “for some unknown reason,” the ballot was reportedly returned to Germany.
Harder told the media outlet she got it back on Saturday.
“The outside envelope had been opened and resealed by customs,” said she said. “This was still sealed when I got it back.”
So, she made a quick decision. Within 20 hours, she boarded a plane and flew to Philly, where she surrendered the mail-in ballot and voted in person.
Her mother said she is thrilled her daughter made such an effort to vote.
“I am just very proud of her,” she said.
