  1. “The figure includes those with convictions, impending prosecutions, cautions, suspected criminal activity or cases where proceedings have been dropped”

So, the headline is complete bullshit. Who’d have thought the daily star would make things up.

  2. I can imagine. Especially with drug drive rule. Anyone who smokes a bit of weed is now a serious criminal risking prison. A couple of tokes on joint and you are “OVER THE LIMIT” for 2 or 3 days.
Fucking joke. Too many laws that are unrealistic

  3. And yet we haven’t managed to prosecute the thieves that stole our billions in the PPE scandal…

  4. > Recent statistics from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) reveal that one in four UK adults of working age, approximately 9.4 million people, have records on the Police National Computer (PNC), covering convictions, cautions, pending prosecutions, or cases that were dropped. The MoJ noted that these figures are estimates and would require a comprehensive review for precise data. Penelope Gibbs, director of the charity Transform Justice, highlighted the societal impact of these records, noting that many employers avoid candidates with a criminal history, which can hinder individuals seeking to rebuild their lives. Gibbs’s #FairChecks campaign advocates for the removal of outdated cautions and childhood offenses from criminal records.

  5. Well it’s not me or my wife or my son so that leaves my seven year old daughter ! Knew she looked dodgy .

  6. The figures quoted by the Daily Star include many categories of people who are not ‘criminals’ – eg people who have not yet been prosecuted, people who have had proceedings dropped, and people who are only suspected of crime.

Words mean things, and cynical right-wing rags can only make their fantasies come true by wilfully and recklessly misrepresenting statistics. Ironically, these are the same people that complain bitterly that ‘these days an accusation is as good as being found guilty’ – whilst making the precise same assumption when it suits them to do so.

  7. Who gives a shit, if you have a justice system that allows a murderer out after 20 years they are no longer a criminal, you have to belive in the system or why have it… i dont expect my work to treat me based on nicking sweets from the corner shop 20 years ago..
