  1. Ok, that’s good. With Trump appeasing Putin, we need to be as energy independent as possible.

  2. There will be a major war in 5 years so all this won’t matter. Probably best we have energy independence infrastructure.

It’s now cheaper to build wind farms than any other for of energy

  3. Can’t say I’d want one near my house either, but is it actually near their houses, or will they just be able to see it if they drive down a particular road?

  4. My friend moved near a wind farm and took us to walk around it when we visited. It was amazing and the scale up close was immense. I wouldn’t mind this at all

  5. (Southern Scotland).

The only real disadvantage to having these nearby are the road closures when they’re bringing the turbine blades to the site. And, with rural roads, the road detours you suffer can be horrendous for the duration.

But it’s amazing to watch these vehicles navigate their way around bends and telegraph poles and such like, the drivers and crew are top notch.

We’re getting another wind farm soon behind our village. We already gets ££ from a fund set up to improve the local area. But this time they might be offering cheap electricity as a sweetener. We will see what comes.

My only gripe is that those areas where these windfarms are often placed have the highest electricity standing charges & the coldest weather … that whole issue needs looked at.

It’s a basic unfairness that sees Londoners paying £0.41 per day but the South West (£0.68), North Wales/Mersey (£0.67), Northern (£0.72) and Yorkshire (£0.68) having to pay top whack.

  6. We have the UK’s largest onshore windfarm in our area (215 turbines) and I love going out for a walk in amongst them! I can see why people would have issues during the construction phase but ultimately we need clean energy, and less reliance on importing energy in general.

  7. Those residents dont own the surrounding view, and the Wind farms should be actively embraced, they look great, they are an absolute positive

  8. I’m an ecologist who sometimes works on projects such as these. Yes, it’s vital that we build projects like wind farms to create our own clean energy, but I completely understand people’s opposition to the siting of these projects. Aside from the construction and operational phase disturbance, it’s also a complete change to the the scenery in places that people have potentially lived all their lives. Many people have a deep and emotional connection to the place that they live in and to have something like this built can be overwhelming and upsetting. It may not be as important as securing our energy future but it’s harsh to dismiss these fears out of hand. We need to have a national conservation about the changing face of the places that we live and not treat people’s concerns as just selfish NIMBYism.
