The Americans first came to England in bulk during World War II.

They never left.

They have since created a local sustaining American colony of both military and civilian  American expat nationals.

Yes, some are American service members that are assigned here for a bit and then go back home but others have stayed and built a life here.  They have married locals and built families.  

There are some that only have adjacent connections to the military but now live here too.
