Lovely little San Marino jewel box of the Apennines, I was lucky enough to visit around 1987 or 88 but sadly I don’t really recall being there so I guess I need to return. I doubt I made it all the way to the high point either but it’s always technically counted as a country I’ve visited even if I have no memories. This is one of the rare high points, to be more or less within a town is not common, Monaco and Vatican City are the only other ones like this that I can think of. These heights have been crucial to the tiny Republic’s independence though, as they’ve offered a nearly impregnable defense through the centuries. Originally a small monastery Titano has now grown into a microstate-tourism beacon of beauty. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the peak and its towers will stay in a state of stasis symbolizing the independent spirit of its unique autonomy.
Here’s a trip report from Eric Gilbertson who true to form milked as much adventure out of bagging this minor titan as possible: [http://www.countryhighpoints.com/san-marino-mount-titano/](http://www.countryhighpoints.com/san-marino-mount-titano/)
