Iowa shooting: Police say multiple gunshot victims in high school shooting | BBC News

I just want to take you back to Iowa though and that breaking story that one student or one person has been killed in an active shooter situation in Iowa uh in the past few hours we can hear there now live from the sheriff’s office I’m the sheriff here in Dallas

County I’m joined by our state local and federal Partners here at the Perry High School uh this morning at approximately 7:37 a.m. we had a Sears radio activation at the high school which indicated an active shooter situation uh officer first arrived within 7 Minutes of that activation uh and located multiple gunshot

Victims we’re still unclear of exactly how many are injured uh or what the extent of those are but we’re working on that right now there is no further danger to the public the community is safe uh we’re just now working backwards trying to figure out everything that happened and make notifications

Um there’ll be another update later on today uh we’re it’s still very early this happened at approximately 7:37 this morning school didn’t start yet luckily uh so there was very few students and faculty in the building uh which I think contributed to uh a good outcome in that

Sense but we’ll more information later on this afternoon we will not be releasing any more information in the meantime uh so please be patient with us so that we can talk with these victims and their families and try and figure out what happened we won’t be answering

Any questions today either or right now uh we’ll let you know later on this afternoon uh afternoon what time we’ll be meeting back with you again and we hope to provide more detail then so can we just just to be clear you don’t have a number of people who were injured in

This we’re still working on on that have you identified the shooter yes what’s their current status or they alive or oh we’ll get to that later on this afternoon can you confirm the was a student of the school I can’t confirm that right now can you confirm me no reunification Center for families

And students right now great Point uh the reunification Center has already been established uh and that most of those I think all the kids have been reunified already uh so we’re good in that in that area thank you are there any TA members that were hurt I can’t

Out a a message as far as location and time of the next press conference so if you go to the Iowa Department of Public Safety website it’ll be posted there probably short afternoon shortly afternoon I’m sorry the Sheriff’s office there in Iowa confirming that they were called to Perry High School at 7:37

Local time to an active shooter situation um they officers encountered multiple gunshot victims they said that they were unclear how many victims or the extent of their injuries didn’t confirm whether or not there were any deceased people they said that there is no further threat to the public and they

Are trying to work out what happened wouldn’t confirm whether or not the shooter had been injured killed or arrested so we’ll bring you more on that as soon as we hear any more from the sheriff’s department there in Iowa

Multiple people have been injured following a shooting at Perry High School in the US state of Iowa on Thursday morning, police say.

The suspect is confirmed dead, but it is unclear if it was from a self-inflicted gun shot wound, the BBC’s US partner CBS News reported.

Officials said there was no further threat to the community.

This was the first day back in classes for students after their annual winter break.

    Kind of macabre that the good outcome that Americans can attribute to is having less students in a school and not a tackling of the issue itself. I guess the way to get the best outcome/solution is don't have people at school at all? Smh.

I cite this story as confirmatory evidence that the second amendment to the US constitution, the prime cause of gun violence, needs to be repealed.
