Surprise increase in inflation to 4%, latest figures show
They are not as expected actually it was predicted that uh inflation Figures were going to come down uh from 3.9 to 3.8 they’ve actually gone up only slightly to 4% so not expected um however of course we’ve seen in the past particularly back in November that economists haven’t quite been on the
Money this year when it’s come to predictions uh so not expected not good news really I mean it tells us what we kind of already know even if uh inflation had come down to that 3.8 figure we still could have expected the of England to keep interest rates higher
For an extended period of time that’s almost a defin now the monetary policy committee’s meeting in on the 1 of February so the next couple of weeks very unlikely to bring interest rates down um it’s not bad uh we are expecting it to go up the following month though
And that’s because of off Gem’s price cap for January um the economists again are predicting that it’ll come back down after that um but there are some caveats to that um Energy prices what’s happening in the Red Sea
The annual rate of inflation has surprisingly risen, official figures show.
The consumer price index measure of inflation stood at 4% in the year to December, according to the Office for National Statistics. A fall, to 3.8%, had been expected by economists polled by Reuters
