Why we should preserve old church buildings

Why we should preserve old church buildings

Why preserve a church building that’s been around for hundreds of years but is crumbling down and really expensive typ hold when you could create a new building that’s much cheaper purpose-built and ready for that Community because we are people who need to know our story these extraordinary

Kind of storehouses of local memory are uh are on everybody’s doorstep we have nearly 16,000 Parish churches many of them 8 00,000 years old all telling the story of that local place and I think that being a being a Christian country is not it’s not just a a description of

The present it’s an inheritance from the past and so uh in order to know our future to tell a better story about the future we’ve got to to retain a way of telling the story about who we’ve been in the past

Are abandoned church buildings worth saving – or, as some experts suggest, should we bring the bulldozers in?

The Bishop of Ramsbury Andrew Ramsey, who is also co-lead for Church and Cathedral buildings for the Church of England, explains why we should preserve old church buildings – because they are ‘storehouses of local memory’ that tell us the story of a place.

  1. He is right! The West is throwing away its history. We became great because of the grace of God. We are crumbling because we have forgotten why we were blessed and by who, God! We need to return to God.

  2. John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Turn to Christ to save your souls today. Do not die without having a close relationship with Him.

  3. I’m an atheist. But I think it’s important to keep old churches as they are part of our cultural heritage. And also, old buildings are the only beautiful buildings in the UK. Doesn’t mean the Church should be tax exempt though.

  4. The important thing is we are not a Christian majority country anymore (Britain), for practical purposes we are not a Christian country at present. Yes they are part British history, but as an atheist I never enter any churches. It's nice they are around but I think it is only Christians who should pay for churches, and I don't think any religion should be tax exempt.
There are abandoned churches near me that are overgrown in the middle of fields. Several are not visible from any public highway. Why are they in this state? Because there are too many for the present population of Christians so the church abandoned them. They don't need preserving at a cost to the general population. If Christians now want them restored and maintained then that is for Christians to pay for.

  5. People that are afraid of hell sbould pay for it. Not non religious tax payers. The church has always taken people money from fear mongering. People just dont think like that anymore so im not surprised they are struggling. I say lets rebuild. Look forward not back
