Heavy fighting in Khan Younis leaves hundreds of patients stranded in main hospital • FRANCE 24

Hospitals in Gaza once again caught in the conflict this time in The Enclave Second City Han Yunis in the South Israeli forces are battling militants near the main hospital there with hundreds of patients and thousands of displaced people unable to leave Israel has ordered people to evacuate the area

And thousands are fleeing South toward the town of Rafa but nearly 1.5 million people are already crowded Ed into shelters and tent camps in Rafa and the conditions there are dire for more on the state of the war Let’s cross to France 24s Katherine Norris Trent she is reporting from Jerusalem Katherine

Israel has said that it’s entered a new phase of this war one with fewer ground troops but we’re still seeing hundreds of deaths in Gaza each day what is Israel’s current strategy well Israel is pound founding the southern Garen city of Han unes it says to try and eliminate Hamas cells

There who are in or rather under the city and networks of tunnels there um they announced on Tuesday that they had surrounded hunis which had been the biggest city in the southern Gaza Strip and blocked off uh roads westwards to the Mediterranean coast and have been calling on people to evacuate from there

Um and now there’s reported continued air strikes on the city as well um and so you’ve had people trying to flee there desperately towards Rafa uh that’s even further south in the Gaza Strip towards the B border with Egypt but there already said to be 1 and a half

Million gazans Sheltering there crowded into an Ever smaller area some of them in a very flimsy makeshift accommodation and tense as bad weather hits this region and um Aid groups are sounding the alarm about looming famine and um food insecurity already exists but also about medical treatment and you’ve got

Um Doctors Without Borders msf Miss Frontier saying that they they’re in a hospital El n in hanun they say they’re surrounded cut off from the outside with around 850 patients and thousands of other people Sheltering from there you’ve got the Palestinian red crescent Society saying that um their vehicles

Um the Reuters news agency reporting from three Anonymous but official sources they say saying that a deal for a 30-day ceasefire could be on the cards and that indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas Representatives have been taking place for my own understanding from Qatari officials they say negotiations are still ongoing

They’ve been talking different Outlets of perhaps uh up to a two-month ceasefire and retained in return for Israel getting all its hostages back um but you know just on Monday there were uh 24 Israeli soldiers killed in one day the bloodiest day for the Israeli army

Forces so far and so you know that that could be a setback in these talks with attitudes hardening here in the public but there is a split in opinion there are those who have been out on the streets very vocally calling for a ceasefire now or a PA in the fighting to

Get the hostages back and there are others we’ve spoken to at the funerals of some of those fallen soldiers who say that the fighting must continue until Victory um D Netanyahu the Prime Minister has said again uh on Wednesday that he wants to keep fighting for a complete Victory and you’ve got Hardline

Right Wingers in the Israeli government such as itamar benava and bzel smutr the Finance Minister or they’ve said that uh they shouldn’t accept a deal if it’s a bad deal for Israel so they are denying that there is an imminent ceasefire deal on the cards but we’ll have to wait and
