officers were trying to serve a warrant
when the suspect open fire outside a
house he was shot dead in the front
garden before more gunfire erupted from

department said it was heartbroken by

day for the city of Charlotte it and for
the profession of law enforcement today

they saw at the scene it was like pow

then again once I got here it was again

three shots 30 seconds then there were
seven shots 30 more seconds and then
there were like 10 shots um so when we
came outside there were no cops at all
then cops started rushing rushing
rushing well our North America

how the incident
unfolded a devastating and tragic day
for local law enforcement in the city of
Charlotte North Carolina as four of
their members were killed in the line of
duty shot dead as they attempted to
arrest a man wanted for the alleged IL
legal possession of a firearm it all
started around 1:30 in the afternoon in
an area to the east of the city of
Charlotte three members of a federal
task force charged with tracking down
and arresting fugitives of Justice
approached the suspect’s house whereupon
he emerged and opened fire on them all
three died at the scene a local police
officer who’ been accompanying the three
task force members was later pronounced
dead in hospital and the suspect was
also shot dead in this gunfight and he
has since been named as Terry Clark
Hughes Jr who was 39 but as the area was
flooded with uh local SWAT team officers
and other law enforcement officials a
second person began opening fire from
within the property and then then
followed a t 3our standoff during which
the bi was brought in along with armored
vehicles who eventually smashed their
way into the property where two women
were found to be Sheltering now initial
report suggested it was a woman and a
17-year-old teenager those reports have
since been corrected they are now
helping police with their inquiries and
the local police chief there a man by
the name of Johnny Jennings described it
as a tragic day for the city of
Charlotte he described the officers who
died as Heroes who were simply trying as
he put it to keep their Community safe

Four police officers have been fatally shot with four others officers wounded while serving a warrant in Charlotte, North Carolina, officials say.

At least one suspected attacker was found dead in the front yard of a barricaded home after a standoff that lasted three hours, police said.

Authorities said two armed suspects were involved.

It is one of the deadliest assaults on US law enforcement in decades.

The scene was broadcast live on television, and one member of the police special forces unit that surrounded the house was shot and killed. I watched the TV broadcast and was strongly shocked.
