making progress in the East analysts say Ukraine’s shortage of Manpower needs to be addressed earlier this month Ukrainian President Vladimir zalinski approved new measures allowing the military to call up more troops and strengthen penalties for evasion he also reduced the mobilization age from 27 to 25 Tran who has been fighting since 2014 said coercion would be unlikely to beat genuine enthusiasm from a potential recruit beat him with a stick if you want but he won’t fight he says in the United States has procured 81 outdated Soviet era combat aircrafts from kakistan their purpose behind behind the US acquisition remains undisclosed but there is speculation that these aircrafts will be potentially deployed in Ukraine where similar jets are still in service there are reports which indicate that the Armed Forces of Ukraine May dissemble uh them for spare parts or even use the obsolete air frames as decoys at airfields now as part of the process back in October it was announced that the kazak government was offering 117 Soviet era fighter and bomber aircrafts for sale by auction this included the MC 31 interceptors the MC 27 fighter bombers the mc29 among others produced in the 1970s and 80s the declared value of the sale was 1 billion um and which is about $1.7 million averaging $1 19,300 per aircraft now further among the aircraft acquired the mikoyan mc31 known as the supersonic Interceptor crucial for defending Soviet airspace during the Cold War stands out the mc27 derived from the M23 served as a ground attack aircraft while the mig29 excelled in air-to-air combat and remains operational in some air forces the Z24 or the Zuko 24 and all weather tactical bomber despite its age continues to serve in various Air Forces including the Russian Aerospace forces and Ukrainian Air Force Force historically kazakistan has maintained strong ties with Russia its former Soviet Ally however geopolitical shifts particularly since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has seen kazakistan aligning more closely with Western Nations drawing criticism from some quarters in Russia so as kazakistan upgrades its military capabilities it’s growing engagement with voice strong opposition to the bill allowing the confiscation of Russian assets the Kremlin deems such actions illegal and Wands of retaliation should the United States proceed however legal experts almost $300 billion primarily held in foreign currencies of the West reuter’s calculations reveal that a substantial amount of money is held in European union and US assets along with other countries the total amount of foreign currency and gold reserves total $612 billion while legally Frozen EU has begun utilizing the interest generated from these Holdings arguing for its legality and necessity arise over the unintended consequences of such actions including retaliation from other nations and the potential breakdown of international legal Norms as diplomatic efforts continue the world watches closely aware of the the far-reaching implications of this financial standoff andex German Soldier has admitted to spying for Russia during a trial the soldier claims that he wished to avoid escalation in the ongoing Russia Ukraine war during his trial the former German Soldier admitted that what he did was wrong the 54-year-old has been accused of passing information to Russian intelligence service this included the information like documents related to munition systems and aircraft technology the former German Soldier obtained these documents while working in the German Army’s equipment information technology and inservice support department according to prosecutors Thomas approached the Russian General Consulate in Bor and the Russian Embassy in Berlin and offered his cooperation in May 2023 he says he was worried about Germany being dragged into the war through delivery of weapons to Ukraine the German soldiers aim was to obtain information before a possible nuclear escalation to keep his family safe he believed the German government wasn’t looking out for the security of its citizens hearings in Thomas’s case are said to last until late June but this is not a lone case this month investigators arrested two German Russian men on suspension of spying for Russia and planning attacks in in Germany a former German intelligence officer is also on trial in Berlin for spying in November 2022 a German Army Reserve officer was handed a suspended sentence for passing information to Russian intelligence German Chancellor Charles has clearly said that we can never accept that Espionage activities take place in the country as for the United Nations sanctions monitors the debris from a missile that landed in the Ukrainian city of K on the 2nd of January well that debris belonged to a North Korean Hong 11 series ballistic missile now as for Russian State media the report cannot be considered an expert report it’s not conclusive is Russia using North Korean missiles in Ukraine well to discuss this we are being joined by Glenn dies who’s a professor of international relations University of South Eastern Norway Glenn always a pleasure of speaking with you now uh Reuters is quoting its sources and so is Russian State media Reuters says that you know it did belong that their sources suggest and they confirm that the UN sanctions monitors have said that the missile the debris it belong to a North Korean missile Russian State media says their sources in the UN have told them that it’s not a conclusive report if we just look at it on the basis of diplomatic ties we all understand Russia and North Korea have those uh milit tie ups do you feel Pyongyang is providing missiles to Russia which it’s using in Ukraine well I know the Russian media has contested it and uh obviously I don’t have the technical expertise to assess if this is from North Korea and it’s of of course also difficult to cut through the fog of War but that being said I think it’s very likely that Russia has been sourcing weapons from North Korea then especially artillery shells and missiles as well North Korea is a very militarized country with huge stock pipes it shares a border with Russia it has friendly relations with Russia so I guess yeah why would Russia not Source missiles and shells from North Korea um as well NATO sending weapons to Ukraine and it also attempts to buy all available weapons around the world so I think Russia similarly sourcing weapon so um I I think it’s uh credible uh although I would like of course like you to see conclusive evidence uh again and now given the kind of tie-ups they have it seems likely that Russia would be using it but if we were to now just take that as a given that yes Russia did use North Korean missiles what does it say about Russia’s war effort at the moment because now Russia you know it always comes across as this military power and it is one but the fact that it’s having to rely on a a much smaller neighbor compared to its own state which is North Korea and it’s having to use North Korean missiles is there some kind of a dir of weapons that Russia is perhaps suffering from at the moment I understand and there are enough reports to suggest that Russia’s defense manufacturing has really boomed over the course of these last two years plus since their invasion of Ukraine but why would they have to use North Korean missiles even if they are well I think even NATO admits that Russia is out producing uh all of the NATO countries combined now so there’s nothing wrong with their production however this has been a very intensive uh War for more than two years now so obviously getting additional supplies uh to what extent they rely on them or if it’s just additional uh I I wouldn’t be in a position to say uh but also why why wouldn’t they get from North Korea again this is uh a neighboring country they have a lot of weapons uh certainly I assume if if NATO could access North Korean shells uh NATO would probably want to get their hands on them as well so it’s um it’s a heavily militarized country but in this instance it’s a positive thing for Russia if you want to go out and buy weapons uh so and again the shared border also uh is not um yeah is obviously an advantage as well in terms of uh yeah sourcing weapons uh Glen now there is never just a give it’s never just a take there’s always a give and a take when it comes to Russia and North Korea what’s the give and take relationship there if Russia is sourcing those missiles from North Korea what does North Korea get from Russia I’ll just like to you know take a recap here uh a few months ago it was last year when we saw North Korean leader kimjongun make his way VIA his train his armored train to the wasni uh Cosmo Drome and soon after that I think within months after that we saw North Korea finally releasing and the launch of a the successful launch of a North Korea satellite after which North Korea shared the photograph of the White House from the satellite that they had just launched now is that what North Korea gains from Russia what’s the give and take there well this doesn’t happen in the open so it would of course be speculations but uh i’ what I have what I’m assuming or at least what I believe is that uh in the weapon sphere it appears that Russia is supplying North Korea with more advanced weapons Technologies uh satellite Technologies meanwhile North Korea has a vast amount of artillery shells and missiles which it can ship to Russia so there there is a a weapons trade going on here uh at least that’s what I assume I can’t prove any of this but this is what appears to be the case uh as um uh but but this also of course stretched into other areas of the economy as well as the Russians and North Koreans have been increasing or working to increase their trade for quite a few years now if I were to just shift the focus of uh uh the western side towards the Eastern side towards North Korea side if North Korea has its missiles in or rather if Russia has North Korean missiles in its Arsenal which are being fired into Ukraine we all understand North Korea had its military posturing given South Korea and US military drills at North Korea’s doorstep is Russia a silent partner standing behind North Korea without announcing it if there is any kind of a conflict which erupts which things have been on a boil between North Korea and South Korea well I think Russia attempts to avoid ending up in blocks that is alliances that is we seen the same in Middle East they would like to get closer to Iran but also it wants to get closer to Saudi Arabia and other Gulf States so you know it wants to be closer with China but it also doesn’t want to alienate India so it avoids this block system which the Americans well in the NATO has promoted very strongly after the Cold War and I think the same applies to the Korean Peninsula uh Russia has worked very hard to develop closer relationship with both North and South Korea indeed what we saw in the 90s when Russia began to distance itself from North Korea it was actually cut out from a lot of the Diplomatic arrangements with South Korea simply because it lost influence in North Korea so uh Russia has its new diplomatic approach around the world now entails establishing good relations effectively with both sides so I I I I think it would be very incorrect to suggest that Russia’s well is engaging in a military uh block or Alliance or campaign against South Korea because uh developing good economic relations with South Korea has been a key priority for for Russia but of course in against as Russia’s now fighting this proxy war with nato in Ukraine it will of course accept any partn ship it has now with North Korea even though it’s a small country it has huge amounts of weapons so it makes it an interesting partner uh NATO boss visited Ukraine just recently and promises more weapons in the coming days now if NATO is promising those weapons to Ukraine and it has us already has the security Aid bill which has been now signed into law now do you feel Russia would also be reaching out more actively towards its Partners or at least friendlies when it comes to the weapons that it need to use in to continue the the war effort because it’s in the open that Iranian drones have been used by Russia uh We’ve now seen reports of the Hong 11 ballistic missile debris found in Ukraine do you feel Russia could perhaps also be reaching out to China since more NATO nations would be coming out in support of Ukraine uh yeah course this is a very high intense intense War there’s a huge amount of Weaponry being used and now over a long period perod of time uh but it is also the kind of weapons which are important I think the it’s mostly artillery shells it’s drones and it’s missiles these are the main weapons that the the Russians are now seeking and using now in terms of NATO I think the key problem if even though they’re signing more money they’re low on ammunition and also Ukraine is low on Manpower and it’s for this reason we see that NATO and Ukraine are losing this war against Russia now obviously more weapons will be sent but I think it’s also worth focusing on the type of weapons NATO sending because now it’s sending more long range missiles and Washington has also greenlighted striking deep inside Russian territory now this is obviously to hit accumulation of soldiers weapon Depots logistic centers vital infrastructure uh but uh but of course this is the risk that uh this thin line between a proxy war and a direct war is slowly being erased so uh I think this is what Russia will now also seek to counter so uh but uh this would probably result in escalation in terms of the war intensifying even further so probably uh Russia opening a new front uh in the north along kov and Sumi and if this is the case they will also require much more weapons as they have a huge Army built up in the rear which is preparing to enter the war now in a huge offensive indeed because the as you mentioned correctly and I agree with that it’s what I’m saying that the the thin line between being a proxy war and a real war real war in the sense a face tof face allout front War those lines are getting blurred very very fast as things are escalating well into the third year of the war now and uh us elections are around the corner and I even spoke earlier with a former member of parliament of former member of Russian Parliament and he mentioned that Russia doesn’t need more land it it has enough land of its own they just don’t want us forces at its border and Ukraine is where US forces can enforce their military might against Russia it won’t happen throughout the other NATO borders because there are there are uh democracies of their own and they will not be willing to attack Russia like a country like Finland but Ukraine that’s on Shaky Ground and that’s where Russia stands on that so this definitely seems like a war which is continuing and we are seeing the third year of it playing out in front of us uh we will be keeping in touch as the developments come in that was Glenn De joining us he’s a professor of international relations University of Southeastern Norway always a pleasure speaking with you Glenn thank you Shivan Skies over the Baltic regions are becoming dangerous for airplanes flights have been reporting an increasing number of missing of fake GPS signals right and the culprit is Russia according to Baltic leaders they’ve now warned that Russia’s dangerous Maneuvers could cause an air disaster soon fin air has suspended its flights to the Estonian City for one month due to GPS interference now the official statement states that flights will remain suspended between 29th of April and 31st of May till they come up with an alternative that doesn’t require GPS altogether now this comes after two fin air flights heading to Estonia had to turn back to Finland due to GPS interference Estonian Minister described the act as a Russian hybrid attack the GPS jamming or blackout episodes Have Become regular since 2022 according to Euro control the European organization ation for the safety of air navigation and offl they’ve been on the rise now what is GPS jamming all modern planes are built with equipment that send and receive constant signals from Global navigation satellite systems like us global positioning system the GPS and Europe’s Galileo this helps the pilot to navigate during the course of the flight now what GPS jamming involves is overloading an aircraft signal equipment with sustained interference that it can no longer send or receive information from its GPS systems a us-based GPS users Lobby group says Russia is regularly attacking the aircraft passengers and sovereignty of NATO countries around 985 GPS outages were recorded in the first two months of this year near the Baltic this is seven times more than cases recorded in the first 2 months of 2023 around 1,371 cases were reported in 2023 flights in and out of Britain are among thousands that have been affected by suspected Russian jamming the GPS jamming sessions mostly occur around Russia’s scend and grad on Cliff a key military post for Russia in fact these signals are also impeding signals using a used by boats in the Baltic Sea to this effect Swedish Navy has also warned about safety of shipping in mid-march a military plane carrying British defense secretary Grand shars was hit by GPS jamming on its way back from Poland over 2,300 Ryan Air flights have reported incidents of GPS interference since last August lava’s air Baltic has reported similar problems as well the Russian invasion of Ukraine has Unleashed a wave of innovation on the battlefield well both sides strive to protect their tanks from deadly threats and our next report tells you how amidst exploding drones and Relentless assaults Moscow has uned a peculiar yet effective solution the turtle tank take a look at this one [Music] tanks have been a Mainstay of warfare for over a century Russia too sent Columns of these heavy war machines in the initial weeks of its invasion of Ukraine but these iron beasts found themselves vulnerable using Gorilla tactics ukrainians pinned them down making the Russian tanks vulnerable to drone attacks but ever since Moscow has learned strategic lessons and is using the same tactic on ukrainians forcing them to remove Abraham’s M1 A1 battle tanks after they were being repeatedly blown up on the other hand Russian forces have added extra armor to their tanks these vehicles are covered in metal armor on all sides except the front where the main gun protrudes resembling the head of a turtle poking out of its shell this strange design is a direct adaptation to the specific challenges posed by Ukraine’s increasing use of small explosive Laden drones against Russian armor the turtle tanks have been spotted in various locations along the front lines including the fierce battles around chavar a critical Ukrainian held town west of bahmut as the ukrainians increasingly turn to small drones packed with explosives to Target Russian vehicles these new defensive structures have become a necessary adaptation on the ever evolving front lines we have to improvise with what we have if we don’t have artillery support because they don’t have shells we have to find other ways to destroy the enemy and drones work like nothing else at least we can get them from somewhere as the Ukrainian forces wait for weapon deliveries from the West Russian forces continue to attack this is the moment when a number of missiles rain down in Ukraine’s Odessa the missile attack on an educational institution in a popular seafront Park the building called the Harry Potter Castle because of its gothic style was seriously hit in the attack bu report vion world are being joined by Glen dies who’s a professor of of international relations University of Southeastern Norway Glenn always a pleasure of speaking with you now uh Reuters is quoting its sources and so is Russian State media reuter says that you know it did belong that their sources suggest and they confirm that the UN sanctions monitors have said that the missile the debris it belonged to a North Korean missile Russian State media says their sources in the UN have told them that it’s not a conclusive report if we just look at it on the basis of diplom atic ties we all understand Russia and North Korea have those military tie-ups do you feel Pyongyang is providing missiles to Russia which it’s using in Ukraine well I know the Russian media has contested it and uh obviously I don’t have the technical expertise to assess if this is from North Korea and it’s of of course also difficult to cut through the fog of War but that being said I think it’s very likely that Russia has been sourcing weapons from North Korea then especially artillery shells and missile as well North Korea is a very militarized country with huge stock piles it shares a border with Russia it has friendly relations with Russia so I guess yeah why would Russia not Source missiles and shells from North Korea um as well NATO sending weapons to Ukraine and it also attempts to buy all available weapons around the world so I think Russia is similarly sourcing weapon so um I I think it’s uh credible uh although I would like of course like you to see conclusive evidence uh again now given the kind of tie-ups they have it seems likely that Russia would be using it but if we were to now just take that as a given that yes Russia did use North Korean missiles what does it say about Russia’s war effort at the moment because now Russia you know it always comes across as this military power and it is one but the fact that it’s having to rely on a a much smaller neighbor compared to its own state which is North Korea and it’s having to use North Korean missiles is there some kind of a dir of weapons that Russia is perhaps suffering from at the moment I understand and there are enough reports to suggest that Russia’s defense manufacturing has really boomed over the course of these last two years plus since their invasion of Ukraine but why would they have to use North Korean missiles even if they are well I think or even NATO admits that Russia is out producing uh all of the NATO countries combined now so there’s nothing wrong with their production but however this has been a very intensive uh War for more than two years now so obviously getting additional supplies uh to what extent they rely on them or if it’s just additional uh I I wouldn’t be in a position to say uh but also why why wouldn’t they get from North Korea again this is uh a neighboring country they have a lot of weapons uh certainly I assume if if NATO could access North Korean shells NATO would probably want to get their hands on them as well so it’s um it’s a heavily militarized country but in this instance it’s a positive thing for Russia if you want to go out and buy weapons uh so and again the shared border also uh is not um yeah is obviously an advantage as well in terms of uh yeah sourcing weapons uh Glenn now there is never just a give it’s never just a take there’s always a give and a take when it comes to Russia and North Korea what’s the give and take relationship there if Russia is sourcing those missiles from North Korea what does North Korea get from Russia I’ll just like to you know take a recap here uh a few months ago it was last year when we saw North Korean leader Kim Jong-un make his way VIA his train his armored train to the wasni uh Cosmo Drome and soon after that I think within months after that we saw North Korea finally releasing and the launch of a the successful launch of a North Korean satellite after which North Korea shared the photograph of the White House from the satellite that they had just launched now is that what North Korea gains from Russia what’s the give and take there well this doesn’t happen in the open so it would of course be speculations but uh i’ what I have what I’m assuming or at least what I believe is that uh in the weapon sphere it appears that Russia is supplying North Korea with more advanced weapons Technologies uh satellite Technologies meanwhile North Korea has a vast amount of artillery shells and missiles which it can ship to Russia so there there is a a weapons trade going on here uh at least that’s what I assume I can’t prove any of this but this is what appears to be the case uh as um but but this also of course stretched into other areas of the economy as well as uh the Russians and North Koreans have been increasing uh or working to increase their trade for quite a few years now if I were to just shift the focus of uh uh the western side towards the Eastern side towards North Korea side if North Korea has its missiles in or rather if Russia has North Korean missiles in its Arsenal which are being fired into Ukraine we all understand North Korea its military posturing given South Korea and US military drills at North Korea’s doorstep is Russia a silent partner standing behind North Korea without announcing it if there is any kind of a conflict which erupts which things have been on a boil between North Korea and South Korea well I think Russia attempts to avoid ending up in blocks that is alliances that is we seen the same in Middle East it would like to get closer to Iran but also it wants to get closer to Saudi Arabia and other Gulf States so you know he wants to be closer with China but it also doesn’t want to alienate India so it avoids it’s this uh block system which the Americans well in the NATO has promoted very strongly after the Cold War and I think the same applies to the Korean Peninsula uh Russia has worked very hard to develop closer relationship with both North and South Korea indeed what we saw in the 90s when Russia began to distance itself from North Korea it was actually cut out from a lot of the Diplomatic arrangements with South Korea simply because it lost influence in North Korea so Russia has it’s new diplomatic approach around the world now entails establishing good relations effectively with both sides so I I I I think it will be very incorrect to suggest that Russia’s well is engaging in a military uh block or Alliance or campaign against South Korea because uh developing good economic relations with South Korea has been a key priority for for Russia but of course in against as Russia’s now fighting this proxy war with nato in Ukraine it will of course accept any partnership it has now with North Korea even though it’s a small country it has huge amounts of weapons so it makes it an interesting partner uh NATO boss visited Ukraine just recently and promises more weapons in the coming days now if NATO is promising those weapons to Ukraine and it has us already has the security Aid bill which has been now signed into law now do you feel Russia would also be reaching out more actively towards its Partners or at least its friendlies when it comes to the weapons that it need to use in to continue the the war effort because it’s in the open that Iranian drones have been used by Russia uh We’ve now seen reports of the Hong 11 ballistic missile debris found in Ukraine do you feel Russia could perhaps also be reaching out to China since more NATO nations would be coming out in support of Ukraine moving on to Russia ukra intense War there’s a huge amount of Weaponry being used over a long period of time the kind of we mostly artillery shells it’s drones and his missiles these are the main weapons that the the Russians are now seeking and using now in terms of NATO I think the key problem if even though they’re signing more money they’re low moving on to the Russia Ukraine war we’re learning that as Ukrainian officials say the situation is worsening on the front line Russia has intensified its attacks on other cities as well at least two people have been killed and six others have been injured in the latest strike in the city of karke as per Ukrainian officials the Russian forces used guided bombs to carry out the attack on the city the attack damaged a residential building in one of the city’s districts while the Emergency Services were working at at that site earlier a Russian missile attack targeted an educational institution in the Ukrainian Black Sea port city of Odessa at least five people were killed and 32 were injured in the attack on the building which is also known as odessa’s Harry Potter Castle local officials say that eight of the injured are in serious condition including a 4-year-old child among the injured were another child and a pregnant woman as well this this is the CCTV footage that has captured the moment the series of blast exploded Odessa has been a frequent Target of the Russian missile and drone attacks particularly Port infrastructure I saw and heard what happened here in front of my eyes missiles were shot down this was just in front of me my doors were blown open and the glass was shaking and then I saw this just before this happened we wanted to go down there for a walk but thank God we weren’t there when it happened we still on with the country’s coverage of the Ukraine Russia War Ukrainian forces near the besieged Eastern stronghold of chivar are staring at a fullblown Russian Onslaught this as they defend the city they say that they are waiting for the much need needed ammunition to renew the their depleted Reserves at the moment take a look at these drone visuals this is Ukraine’s strategic city of chaar once home to a population of over 12,000 people all that is left now are ruins as a result of constant shelling by Russian forces for months buildings lying in Ruins streets abandoned houses and the offices their charred and a gold d Church destroyed not one inch of the chivar has been Spar the scale of Destruction is similar to what happened in bakou and ofde cedes which Ukraine yielded after months of the backbone of Ukraine’s Eastern defenses Ukrainian forces defending chavar have been desperately short of ammunition am made intensified attacks from Russian troops and drones that they await reinforcements from the US Ukraine’s 225th assault Battalion is currently fighting nasar they say getting more artillery shells will be critical for them to hold their positions I hope we receive artillery shells soon this can really changed the situation I witnessed events a year ago when Wagner was advancing we received cluster Munitions which changed the situation significantly and we war in the latest Ukrainian forces near the besieged Eastern stronghold of chafar are staring at a full-blown Russian Onslaught as they defend the city they say that they are waiting for the much needed ammunition to renew their depleted reserves take a look at these drone visuals right now this is Ukraine’s strategic city of chavar once home to a population of over 12,000 people all that is defending chavar have run desperately short of ammunition Amed intensified attacks from Russian troops and drones they await reinforcements from the the US which approved a major military aid package Ukraine’s 225th separate assault Battalion is currently fighting near chaia they say getting more artillery shells will be extremely important for them to hold their positions I hope we receive artillery shells soon this can really change the situation I witnessed events a year ago when Wagner was advancing we received cluster Munitions which changed the situation significantly and we managed to successfully counter attack the US Department of State alleged that Russia had used chemical weapons against the Ukrainian Army and this was the reason to impose additional sanctions against Russia interestingly last week Russia leveled similar charges against Ukraine at the organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons o r opcw now there was a conference which was held and now the question arises who’s using chemical weapons against the other to discuss matters we’re joined by Dr Gilbert drro who’s an author historian and political commentator joining us from Brussels Dr do always a pleasure speaking with you is this a tit fortat move as Russia leveled similar charges against Ukraine entirely possible that is the case the um the first victim of war is the truth and uh what we have seen over the past couple of years has borne that truth out uh all the way the Russians may very well have used chemical weapons but I would suggest it was in response to what they did what they reported and complained about uh for the Ukrainian side a week ago generally speaking everything that comes out of Ukraine and a lot that comes out of Washington is attributing to the Russians what the ukrainians are doing so I would take this uh this latest um accusation by the state department with great caution if chemical weapons are indeed being used on the battlefield by either side where is this war inching towards and we have been you know uh the idea of a nuclear war it’s been way too romanticized at the moment it had there have been too many threats around it are we really now moving towards it is it is this the first step that we’re going to see no I wouldn’t consider these latest accusations or charges and countercharges as signifying any particular escalation I think that the the um the incidents that are at question here are of very small nature and they are kind of testing the water to see what can be done and how far you can go I don’t think that this is leading us into a new Direction the weapons already being used in this war are of great uh destructive power most recently the Russians use over the past few months of so-called dumb bombs which have been smartened up and turned into glider bombs these are 500 ton 1,500 ton even 3 ton bombs with devastating impact that can tear up large parts of a battlefield and kill most anyone within 20 30 40 medes range so these weapons uh are weapons of great destructive power have already been used and the introduction of some chemical weapons here or there uh does not change situation greatly Dr drro now given your experience and your study of the region over spanning over decades I wanted to understand what consequence do American sanctions have especially on a nation like Russia we have seen us impose several rounds of sanctions in the past anything happens and they impose further sanctions are these sanctions of any consequence the most significant sanctions which are of consequence quence have been the financial sanctions removing Russia from the Swift system has uh has had considerable impact on Russia’s commercial relations with the world it hasn’t uh for a few months there were setbacks in the trade uh they were overcome a workarounds were arrived at and Russia more or less is doing quite well with with in its commercial relations particularly with the with the global South um otherwise the the um sanctions have either been counterproductive in the sense that they have caused much greater harm to the United States and particularly to Western Europe than they have to Russia uh or they have had no effect the latest sanctions that are discussed now in connection with the supposed use of chemical weapons will have nil effect to sanction a country’s military units uh for one or another abuse is an absurd proposition you are at war with them or you’re not at war with them and what difference does it make if the if individuals are named and are unable to visit the United States or own property there it’s this is just proforma it is checking the buck doctor the last time we spoke you had mentioned very categorically that yes uh the bill has been signed into law for the aid the military aid towards Ukraine but it’s not going to happen immediately would you want to put some kind of a timeline to it by when can American weapons finally make it to the Ukrainian front lines because Ukraine is desperately waiting for them well some weapons will other weapons won’t they won’t for months if not for years the United States and and its European allies are simply unable to produce in quantity the artillery shells and other and the the air defense systems that Ukraine desperately needs now if it is going to withstand the coming peling of a Russian offensive in full force uh the Russians have been softening up the lines they have been taking additional territory they have been take improving their positions as they say very understated way and uh Ukraine in the coming month or two is really unable to resist the the Russian moves that we see every day how long it will take for Patriots to arrive they don’t have Patriots in the warehouse ready to ship out to to Ukraine they don’t have artillery shells in the millions to to assist Ukraine um but the biggest issue has nothing to do with Western Supply it has to do with Ukraine’s own Manpower which is in a Shabby State and they are unable to raise uh raise their their Battlefield numbers their their various military units are depleted and therefore ineffective that is nothing that uh shipment of further further um tanks or artillery pieces or attack thems can Rectify so the the ukrainians are in a very difficult position the United States is and and uh the British the Germans are boasting that they’re providing assistance but it’s a very limited Military value in a situation that is dire so when it comes to the sanctions at least the current ones will have no significance at least not on Russia and uh as far as the weapons are concerned it’s going to take a while for it to for them to reach the Ukrainian front lines and even if they do as you mentioned the Manpower still continues to be a problem as Ukraine is severely outmanned at the moment there are there are H so there are allegations of NATO forces and soldiers from other nations making their way to the Ukrainian to Ukrainian soil fighting for Ukraine but of course none of that is in the open so as far as what it makes its way through the public ey is Ukrainian soldiers who are out man Ukraine is outm at the moment even if they get the weapons we are going to be tracking the Russia Ukraine developments as they come in as we have been doing all this while right here on weon world is one big thank you to Dr Gilbert drro an author historian political commentator joining us from russels with all your insights thanks for the invitation moving on us has accused Russia of using a chemical weapon against Ukraine Washington has pressed fresh sanctions against MOS over its violation of the international chemical weapons ban the state department has blamed Moscow of deploying the choking agent chloropicrin and even riot control chemicals as part of its Warfare the chemical has not been used in an isolated incident and is aimed at dislodging Ukrainian forces from fortified areas US Treasury has tightened stions on Moscow it has targeted at least 300 entities across Russia and China for supporting the forers invasion of Ukraine at least 13 have been injured after a Russian missile struck Ukraine’s AA City on Thursday the attack damaged civilian infrastructure in the city this comes after two similar strikes earlier this week killed at least eight people in odsa which is an important Black Sea port for Ukraine and has come under attack very frequently in the past as well Ukrainian artillery continues to to run low on ammunition the Eastern artillery has said that they are shot on shells and they are waiting us Aid Ukraine’s ammunition drout is mounting as Russia is on to making its biggest advancements in the war since 2022 the Russian forces have pushed forward on the Eastern Front that is near abiva and this has prompted unrest within the Sena military officials in Ukraine they have warned that Ukraine’s Supply hubs and lines are close to being in range of the Russian fire very soon meanwhile on Monday Vladimir zinski confirmed that small batches of us Aid were arriving however the Ukrainian president has urged for the supplies to be made faster in order to avoid Russian advancements in the ongoing [Music] War now the US state department has hinted that Russian troops used the banned chemical substance clor pin against the Armed Forces of Ukraine Washington is claiming that Moscow now stands in violation of the convention on the prohibition of chemical weapons as allegations and counter allegations Galo let’s find out more about this band chemical agent well now Chlor pin is listed as a band choking agent by the heg uh which based Organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons now the colorless to faintly Yellow oily liquid is generally used as chemical warfare agent it’s used in agriculture as a soil fumigant it has also been used as a chemical warfare agent and a riot control agent the agent can be dispersed in multiple ways number one chloropicrin can be released into indoor air or outdoor air as liquid spray it can also contaminate water and food well speaking of absorption the choking agent can be absorbed systematically through inhalation ingestion and the skin and this all this causes severe irritation to lungs eyes and even skin now chloropicrin Vapors are heavier than the air and they will spread along the ground and collect and stay in poorly ventilated low Ling or confined areas and these spaces they include bunkers which Russia has been accused of targeting with the nerve agent upon exposure it causes severe irritation to the skin eyes respiratory tract and also gastrointestinal tract irritation apart from that people exposed to chloropicrin as a war gas were reported to have experienced nausea vomiting and diarrhea for a span of few days and even weeks ironically treatment is primarily supportive there is no antidote for chloropicrin toxicity now German forces fired the gas against Allied troops during World War I in one of the first uses of a chemical weapon it was used in large quantities during World War I and was stockpiled during World War II however it is now no longer authorized for military use Skies over the Baltic regions are becoming dangerous for airplanes flights have been reporting and increasing number of missing of fake GPS signals right and the culprit is Russia according to Baltic leaders they’ve now warn that Russia’s dangerous Maneuvers could cause an air disaster soon fin air has suspended its flights to the Estonian City for one month due to GPS interference now the official statement states that flights will remain suspended between 29th of April and 31st of May till they come up with an alter alternative that doesn’t require GPS altogether now this comes after two fin air flights heading to Estonia had to turn back to Finland due to GPS interference Estonian Minister described the act as a Russian hybrid attack the GPS jamming or blackout episodes Have Become regular since 2022 according to Euro control the European Organization for the safety of air navigation and off late they’ve been on the rise now what is GPS jamming all modern planes are built with equipment that send and receive constant signals from Global navigation satellite systems like us global positioning system the GPS and Europe’s Galileo this helps the pilot to navigate during the course of the flight now what GPS jamming involves is overloading an aircraft signal equipment with sustained interference that it can no longer send or receive information from its GPS systems a USB GPS users Lobby group says Russia is regularly attacking the aircraft passengers and sovereignty of NATO countries around 985 GPS outages were recorded in the first two months of this year near the Baltic this is 7 times more than cases recorded in the first 2 months of 2023 around 1,371 cases were reported in 2023 flights in and out of Britain are among thousands that have been affected by suspected Russian jamming the GPS jamming sessions mostly occur around Russia’s scend and gr on Cliff a key military post for Russia in fact these signals are also impeding signals using a used by boats in the Baltic Sea to this effect Swedish Navy has also warned about safety of shipping in mid-march a military plane carrying British defense secretary gr shars was hit by GPS jamming on its way back from Poland over 2,300 Ryan Air flights have reported incidents of GPS interference since last August Latvia’s air Baltic has reported similar problems as well the Russian invasion of Ukraine has Unleashed a wave of innovation on the battlefield well both sides strive to protect their tanks from deadly threats and our next report tells you how amidst exploding drones and Relentless assaults Moscow has uned a peculiar yet effective solution the turtle tank take a look at this one tanks have been a main stay of warfare for over a century Russia too sent Columns of these heavy war machines in the initial weeks of its invasion of Ukraine but these iron beasts found themselves vulnerable using Gorilla tactics ukrainians pinned them down making the Russian tanks vulnerable to drone attacks but ever since Moscow has learned strategic lessons and is using the same tactic on ukrainians forcing them to remove Abraham’s M1 A1 battle tanks after they were being repeatedly blown up on the other hand Russian forces have added extra armor to their tanks these vehicles are covered in metal armor on all sides except the front where the main gun protrudes resembling the head of a turtle poking out of its shell this strange design is a direct adaptation to the specific challenges posed by Ukraine’s increasing use of small explosive Laden drones against Russian armor the turtle tanks have been spotted in various locations along the front lines including the fierce battles around chavar a critical Ukrainian held town west of bahmut as the ukrainians increasingly turn to small drones packed with explosives to Target Russian Vehicles these new defensive structures have become a necessary adaptation on the ever evolving front lines we have to improvise with we have if we don’t have artillery support because they don’t have shells we have to find other ways to destroy the enemy and drones work like nothing else at least we can get them from somewhere as the Ukrainian forces wait for weapon deliveries from the West Russian forces continue to attack this is the moment when a number of missiles rain down caution if chemical weapons are indeed being used on the battlefield by either side where is this war inching towards and we have been you know uh the idea of a nuclear war it’s been way too romanticized at the moment it had there have been too many threats around it are we really now moving towards it is it is this the first step that we’re going to see no I wouldn’t consider uh these latest accusations or charges and countercharges as signifying any particular escalation I think that the the the incidents that are at question here are of very small nature and they are of testing the water to see what can be done and how far you can go I don’t think that this leading us into a new Direction the weapons already being used in this war are of great uh destructive power most recently the Russians use over the past few months of so-called dumb bombs which have been smartened up and turned into glider bombs these are 500 ton 1,500 ton even three ton bombs with devastating impact that can tear up large parts of a battlefield and kill most anyone within 20 30 40 media range so these weapons uh are weapons of great destructive power have already been used and the introduction of some chemical weapons here or there uh does not change the situation greatly Dr drro now given your experience and your study of the region over spanning over decades I wanted to understand what consequence do American sanctions have especially on a nation like Russia we have seen us impose several rounds of sanctions in the past anything happens and they impose further sanctions are these sanctions of any consequence the most significant sanctions which are of consequence have been the financial sanctions removing Russia from the Swift system has uh has had considerable impact on Russia’s commercial relations with the world it hasn’t uh for a few months there were setbacks in the trade uh they were overcome a workarounds were arrived at and Russia more or less is doing quite well with with in its commercial relations particularly with the with the global South um otherwise the the um sanctions have either been counterproductive in the sense that they have caused much greater harm to the United States and particularly to Western Europe than they have to Russia uh or they have had no effect the latest sanctions that are discussed now in connection with the supposed use of chemical weapons will have nil effect to sanction a country’s military units uh for one or another abuse is an absurd proposition you are at war with them or you’re not at war with them and what difference does it make if the if individuals are named and are unable to visit the United States or own property there it’s this is just pro forma it is checking the Box doctor the last time we spoke you had mentioned very categorically that yes uh the bill has been signed into law for the aid the military aid towards Ukraine but it’s not going to happen immediately would you want to put some kind of a timeline to it by when can American weapons finally make it to the Ukrainian front lines because Ukraine is desperately waiting for them well some weapons will other weapons won’t they won’t for months if not for years the United States and and its European allies are simply unable to produce in quantity the artillery shells and other uh and the the air defense systems that Ukraine desperately needs now if it is going to withstand the coming pummeling of a Russian offensive in full force uh the Russians have been softening up the lines they have been taking additional territory they have been take improving their positions as they say very understated way and uh Ukraine in the coming month or two is really unable to resist the the Russian moves that we see every day how long it will take for Patriots to arrive they don’t have Patriots in the warehouse ready to ship out to to Ukraine they don’t have artillery shells in the millions to to assist Ukraine um but the biggest issue has nothing to to do with Western Supply it has to do with Ukraine’s own Manpower which is in a Shabby State and they are unable to raise uh raise their their Battlefield numbers their their various military units are depleted and therefore ineffective that is nothing that uh shipment of further further um tanks or artillery pieces or attacks can rectify so the the ukrainians are in a very difficult position the United States is and and uh the British the Germans are boasting that they’re providing assistance but it’s a very limited Military value in a situation that is dire so when it comes to the sanctions at least the current ones will have no significance at least not on Russia and uh as far as the weapons are concerned it’s going to take a while for it to for them to reach the Ukrainian front lines and even if they do as you mentioned the Manpower still continues to be a problem as Ukraine is severely outmanned at the moment there are there are HS or there are allegations of NATO forces and soldiers from other nations making their way to the Ukrainian to Ukrainian soil fighting for Ukraine but of course none of that is in the open so as far as what it makes its way through the public ey Ukrainian soldiers who are outmanned Ukraine is outmanned at the moment even if they get the weapons we are going to be tracking the Russia Ukraine developments as they come in as we have been doing all the this while right here on weon world is one big thank you to Dr Gilbert drro an author historian political commentator joining us from russels with all your insights thanks for the invitation moving on us has accused Russia of using a chemical weapon against Ukraine Washington has pressed fresh sanctions against Moscow over its violation of the international chemical weapons ban the state department has blamed Moscow of deploying the choking agent chloropicrin and even riot control chemicals as part of its Warfare the chemical has not been used in an isolated incident and is aimed at dislodging Ukrainian forces from fortified areas US Treasury has tighten stions on Moscow it has targeted at least 300 entities across Russia and China for supporting the forers invasion of Ukraine at least 13 have been injured after a Russian missile stru Ukraine’s AA City on Thursday the attack damaged civilan infrastructure in the city this comes after two similar strikes earlier this week killed at least eight people in odisa which is an important Black Sea port for Ukraine and has come under attack very frequently in the past as well Ukrainian artillery continues to run low on ammunition the Eastern artillery has said that they are shot on shells and they are awaiting us Aid Ukraine’s ammunition route is mounting as Russia is on to making its biggest advancements in the war since 2022 the Russian forces have pushed forward on the Eastern Front that is near abiva and this has prompted unrest within the senior military officials in Ukraine they have warned that Ukraine’s Supply hubs and lines are closed to being in range of the Russian fire very soon meanwhile on Monday Vlad zinski confirmed that small batches of us Aid were arriving however the Ukrainian president has urged for the supplies to be made faster in order to avoid Russian advancements in the ongoing [Music] War now the US state department has hinted that Russian troops used the banned chemical substance Chlor pin against the Armed Forces of Ukraine Washington is claiming that Moscow now stands in violation of the convention on the prohibition of chemical weapons as allegations and counter allegations galow let’s find out more about this band chemical agent well now chloropicrin is listed as a band choking agent by the Haag uh which based Organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons now the colorless to faintly Yellow oily liquid is generally used as chemical warfare agent it’s used in agriculture culture as a soil fumigant it has also been used as a chemical warfare agent and a riot control agent the agent can be dispersed in multiple ways number one chloropicrin can be released into indoor air or outdoor air as liquid spray it can also contaminate water and food while speaking of absorption the choking agent can be absorbed systematically through inhalation ingestion and the skin and this all the causes severe irritation to lungs eyes and even skin now chloropicrin vapers are heavier than the air and they will spread along the ground and collect and stay in poorly ventilated low Ling or confined areas and these spaces they include bunkers which Russia has been accused of targeting with the nerve agent upon exposure it causes severe irritation to the skin eyes respiratory tract and also gastrointes stal tract irritation apart from that people exposed to chloropicrin as a war gas were reported to have experienced nausea vomiting and diarrhea for a span of few days and even weeks ironically treatment is primarily supportive there is no antidote for chloropicrin toxicity now German forces F the gas against Allied troops during World War I in one of the first uses of a chemical weapon it was used in large quantities during World War I and was stockpiled during World War II however it is now no longer authorized for military use Skies over the Baltic regions are becoming dangerous for airplanes flights have been reporting an increasing number of missing of fake GPS signals right and the culprit is Russia according to Baltic leaders they’ve now warned that Russia’s dangerous Maneuvers could cause an air disaster soon fin air has suspended its flights to the Estonian City for 1 month due to GPS interference now the official statement states that flights will remain suspended between 29th of April and 31st of May till they come up with an alternative that doesn’t require GPS altogether now this comes after two fin air flights heading to Estonia had to turn back to Finland due through GPS interference Estonian Minister described the act as a Russian hybrid attack the GPS jamming or blackout episodes Have Become regular since 2022 according to Euro control the European Organization for the safety of air navigation and off late they’ve been on the rise now what is GPS jamming all modern planes are built with equipment that send and receive constant signals from Global navigation satellite systems like us global positioning system the GPS and Europe’s Galileo this helps the pilot to navigate during the course of the flight now what GPS jamming involves is overloading an aircraft signal equipment with sustained interference that it can no longer send or receive information from its GPS systems a usp’s GPS users Lobby group says Russia is regularly attacking the aircraft passengers and sovereignty of NATO countries around 985 GPS outages were recorded in the first two months of this year near the Baltic this is seven times more cases recorded in the first 2 months of 2023 around 1,371 cases were reported in 2023 flights in and out of Britain are among thousands that have been affected by suspected Russian jamming the GPS jamming sessions mostly occur around Russia’s scalen grad on Cliff a key military post for Russia in fact these signals are also impeding signals using a used by boats in the Baltic Sea to this effect Swedish Navy has also warned about safety of sh shpping in mid-march a military plane carrying British defense secretary Grand shars was hit by GPS jamming on its way back from Poland over 2,300 Ryan Air flights have reported incidents of GPS interference since last August Latvia’s air Baltic has reported similar problems as well the Russian invasion of Ukraine has Unleashed a wave of innovation on the battlefield well both sides strive to protect their tanks from deadly threats and our next report tells you how amidst exploding drones and Relentless assaults Moscow has uned a peculiar yet effective solution the turtle tank take a look at this one tanks have been a mean stay of warfare for over a century Russia to sent Columns of these heavy war machines in the initial weeks of its invasion of Ukraine but these iron beasts found themselves vulnerable using Gorilla tactics ukrainians pinned them down making the Russian tanks vulnerable to drone attacks but ever since Moscow has learned strategic lessons and is using the same tactic on ukrainians forcing them to remove Abraham’s M1 A1 battle tanks after they were being repeatedly blown up on the other hand Russian forces have added extra armor to their tanks the these vehicles are covered in metal armor on all sides except the front where the main gun protrudes resembling the head of a turtle poking out of its shell this strange design is a direct adaptation to the specific challenges posed by Ukraine’s increasing use of small explosive Laden drones against Russian armor the turtle tanks have been spotted in various locations along the front lines including the fierce battles around chavar a critical Ukrainian heal town west of bahmut as the ukrainians increasingly turn to small drones packed with explosives to Target Russian Vehicles these new defensive structures have become a necessary adaptation on the ever evolving front lights we have to improvise with what we have if we don’t have artillery support because they don’t have shells we have to find other ways to destroy the enemy and drones work like nothing else at least we can get them from somewhere as the Ukrainian forces wait for weapon deliveries from the West Russian forces continue to attack this is the moment when a number of missiles rain down in Ukraine’s Odessa the missile attack on an educational institution in a popular seafront Park the building called the Harry Potter Castle because of its gothic style was seriously hit in the attack VI report vion world is one moving on to the Russia Ukraine war we’re learning that as Ukrainian officials say the situation is worsening on the front line Russia has intensified its attacks on other cities as well at least two people have been killed and six others have been injured in the latest strike in the city of karke as per Ukrainian officials the Russian forces use guided bombs to carry out the attack on the city the attack damaged a residential building in one of the city’s districts while the Emergency Services were working at that site earlier a Russian missile attack targeted an educational institution in the Ukrainian Black Sea port city of Odessa at least five people were killed and 32 were injured in the attack on the building which is also known as odessa’s Harry Potter Castle local officials say that eight of the injured are in serious condition including a 4-year-old child among the injured were another child and a pregnant woman as well this is the CCTV footage that has captured the moment the series of blasts exploded Odessa has been a frequent Target of the Russian missile and drone attacks particularly Port infrastructure I saw and heard what happened here in front of my eyes missiles were shot down this was just in front of me my dos were blown open and the glass was shaking and then I saw this just before this happened we wanted to go down there for a walk but thank God we weren’t there when it happened we still on with the continuous coverage of the Ukraine Russia War War Ukrainian forces near the besieged Eastern stronghold of chivar are staring at a fullblown Russian Onslaught this as they defend the city they say that they are waiting for the much needed ammunition to renew the their depleted Reserves at the moment take a look at these drone visuals this is Ukraine’s strategic city of chfar once’s home to a population of over 12,000 people all that is left now are ruined as a result of constant shelling by Russian forces for months buildings lying in Ruins streets abandoned houses and the offices there charred and a gold Dome Church destroyed not one inch of the chass ofar has been Spar the scale of Destruction is similar to what happened in bakou and ofde cidies which Ukraine yielded after months of Russian bombings and huge losses for both the sides now Russia’s Army has reached the outskirts of chaar capturing it will give Russia control of a Hilltop from which it can attack cities that form the backbone of Ukraine’s Eastern defenses Ukrainian forces defending chavar have been desperately short of ammunition amid intensified attacks from Russian troops and runs that they await reinforcements from the US Ukraine’s 225th assault Battalion is currently fighting nfar they say getting more artillery shells will be critical for them to hold their positions I hope we receive artillery shells soon this can really change the situation I witnessed events a year ago when Wagner was advancing we received cluster Munitions which changed the situation significantly and we managed successfully Counterattack shifting our Focus now Russia continues to make advances in the battlefield but amidst the Russian advances in the ongoing War NATO Chief Jance Stenberg has made an unannounced visit to Ukraine making his third visit to the country since the war broke out the Secretary General of the transatlantic military Alliance held talks with Ukrainian president vadir zinski during his visit NATO boss admitted his alliance members have failed to live up to the promises of military aid in recent months but he has assured the war own country that the flow of arms and ammunition will now increase NATO alliance have not delivered what they promised the United States spent months uh not agreeing a package for Ukraine and European allies uh have not delivered the amount of ammunition they promised so now our responsibility is to ensure that these announcements are turned into real deliveries physical deliveries or weapons and ammunition as soon as possible stoltenberg’s visit comes at a difficult time on the battlefield for Ukraine after a failed Ukrainian counter offensive last year Russia is taking advantage in Manpower and ammunition the Russian army launched a missile attack on Odessa Ukraine’s Southern Port City the building called the Harry Potter castle by locals because of its Gothic toured style was hit and was on fire as of now four people are reportedly Dead from the Russian strike the type of missile is currently being checked forensic Specialists are carrying out the appropriate evaluations to the send all services including the state emergency service are currently working to eliminate the consequences of this strike yet another War Crime After the primary conclus I are made determining the type of weapon we will be able to we managed to successfully Counterattack the US Department of State alleged that Russia had used chemical weapons against the Ukrainian Army and this was the reason to impose additional sanctions against Russia interestingly last week Russia leveled similar charges against Ukraine at the organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons o r op CW now there was a conference which was held and now the question arises who’s using chemical weapons against the other to discuss matters we’re joined by Dr gilbertt drro is an author historian and political commentator joining us from Brussels Dr do always a pleasure speaking with you is this a tit fortat move as Russia leveled similar charges against Ukraine entirely possible that is the case the um the first victim of war is the truth and uh what we have seen over the past couple of years has borne that truth out uh all the way the Russians may very well have used chemical weapons but I would suggest it was in response to what they did US sanctions have been imposed on China for providing “critical inputs to Russia’s military-industrial base” for use in the conflict with Ukraine. On Wednesday, US officials unveiled a comprehensive package that targets about 300 organizations in China, Russia, and other nations.

I don't like China at all, they want to be a great power in the future, they want the whole world to be afraid
I absolutely feel terrible for the Ukrainians, they deserve to have every opportunity to be independent and govern themselves. If Russia wins this war they will erase Ukraine from the history books!
Russia already built up its arm s and weapons
