[Mari] Trevisani: “If Lautaro told me €10M contract or nothing, I would choose nothing as the club. €10M net is for players at a higher level than Lautaro’s. Many players in the world. Inter have lost Lukaku and Dzeko, 700 goals between them. And Inter went on to be better without Lukaku and Dzeko.”

  1. He’s right. Lautaro is not a player who is worth €10 million a season. He can’t even score 30 goals a season. He hasn’t scored in the last 10 games. He’s a good striker but nothing more. He can’t even cross players up. He looses the ball when he attempts 1v1s. He’s like a little bulldog. €8 million a year and that’s it.

  2. We’re unfortunately at a point in time where truly great strikers are extremely rare. Aside from Haaland, Kane, and Mbappe, there’s truly no one elite at the same level as prime Lewandowski, Suarez, or Aguero of the past. Even Real Madrid had to play two wingers as strikers while there are plenty of richer clubs having trouble finding strikers.

There are some decent scoring strikers like Guirassy, Openda, David, or Gimenez but they’re very much a big gamble. Even those from Serie A like Zirkzee is still a big gamble. Much bigger than keeping Lautaro that’s for sure. It’s not so much that Lautaro is world class but he’s about the best we (and in fact many other clubs) can do right now. That’s just the kind of level in today’s era of football.
