now let’s turn to Ukraine now where officials say Russia has launched another large-scale missile and drone attack across the whole of Ukraine Ukraine’s military said air defense systems were engaged in repelling attacks and intercepted all projectiles launched at keev there are also reports of explosions in the western city of laviv and zapa Ukrainian media say Russian forces launched cruise and ballistic missiles rockets and Shad type drones throughout the night well it’s speak to our Ukraine correspondent James Waterhouse uh James good to have you what’s the latest we know about uh these attacks as well as the damage they may have caused well this is clearly another large scale Nationwide attack launched by Russia on Ukraine uh we’re told by the authorities that seven regions were affected from Ivano frankis in the west to zapia in the Southeast and it seems the targets were Ukraine’s infrastructure once more we’re told three major thermal power stations have been damaged in the southern city of hom uh the railway station uh as well as surrounding tracks tracks have reportedly been damaged too and we’re also told uh that residential buildings in some of these cities like Lviv uh have been damaged as well and that civilians have been injured but we don’t have any idea on on numbers yet but you Ukraine likes to count the number of projectiles that make their way in overnight it was 76 59 of which were intercepted they say so these are drones and missiles that were launched from Over the Caspian Sea to the east of Ukraine by Russian bombers they were launched from inside Russia itself as well as from occupied territory inside Ukraine so you know things have been quiet for a while but it’s clear that Russia uh had the means to launch such attacks of this size alongside uh waging its war on the vast front lines in the east and south of Ukraine all right James thank you for that update

Ukrainian energy infrastructure has been targeted overnight in a “massive” overnight Russian missile and drone attack, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said.

According to Kyiv officials, serious damage has been caused to three Soviet-era power plants.

The air force said it shot down 39 of 55 missiles and 20 out of 21 attack drones used in the attack, but the damage caused has placed pressure on Ukraine’s energy system, with rolling blackouts having to be imposed on several regions across the country.
