New protests underway in Tbilisi as “Russian law” advances in Georgian parliament • FRANCE 24

our correspondent Reis J Who’s standed by live Reis good evening to you at the scale of the police violence uh causing alarm now outside of Georgia tell us the latest on the situation the latest is that this evening the the parliament voted on for the law on the second reading and it was quite expecting but it was voted in hurry in quite a hidden way let’s say and as we expected it raise a lot of anger in the country and tonight there is not and under way a very big demonstration one of the biggest I ever observed in this country within uh for 20 years very important showing how determined are the people which are opposing to this law uh still the government says that they want absolutely to adopt it in the coming days or in the coming two weeks let’s say and we can say that now the fight between the governments and the opposition forces which is which are not the political opposition just the Civil Society the youth which are going the street because they don’t want to be back in the Russian sphere of influence let’s say so Georgia has to be to be followed on the coming days because the events can be very very important uh for the future of this country R will be talking constantly about it clearly you’re there for us and you’ve been there for the past two decades as you say you know the country inside out if this bill becomes law as it looks like it will do you think that the violence will get worse yeah it’s it’s really possible and again the the mood we could observe tonight in the in the demonstration that’s a few minutes ago where I was there I still have some some gas in the ears in the ears uh we we we we see the determination and on both side we saw also the government tonight the Prime Minister for example talking saying that they will at any cost adopt this law so we we see that we are going towards the the the crisis more and more and probably tonight they were like 80 or 100,000 people in the street for a small country has 3.7 million it’s really a huge huge amount of people re return the streets is Georgia on the breakdown of this greater civil instability I think that’s the case yes I think you just answered that one but what I’m wondering is is this something Russia is standing by to take advantage of Russia of course already is is running uh South otia abazia regions of Georgia they took in 2008 yeah AB absolutely and we should always also not forget that the war in Ukraine that we observe now in Ukraine in reality started in Georgia in 2008 this is the same war and the the wording the the method the way that Russia is is conducting this war is the same than the one which started in Georgia back in 2008 so what happened now in Georgia is obviously something which is pushed by the Russians and by the way we had a lot of messages this last days from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia the former president Medvedev supporting the Georgian government to adopt uh this law so what’s happening is also somehow part of the war of of Russia against Ukraine and basically against the west and other for I mean other country in the near abroad of Russia which want to become part of the European and the Western World R into L thank you very much indeed rinse your eyes take care of them that tear gas stings badly doesn’t it re shant our correspondent bring us the very latest on the situation and of course he has a watching brief thank you sir for being with us we’ll be speaking to the

  1. The citizens of Georgia have a decision to make… Now. There is no way to accommodate a pro Putin government & maintain individual freedoms. Best wishes to the people of Georgia.

  2. Georgia's government is smart it doesn't want to end up like Ukraine and all the other countries that are now in ruins because it listened to the lies and manipulation of the west.

  3. If the elected government passes a law, then every one needs to abide it. If the majority doesnt like it, then in the next election they can vote the ruling party out. This is the basic tenent of democracy. Why they are blaming Putin for this?
