  1. In the "old days" (60s & 70s) Immigration Officers at ports of entry didn’t have sophisticated technology but relied on paper records, and their experience and skills. They seemed to cope.

  2. So annoying how everyone is able to walk around. With out a care in the world teenager has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing on a train in south London.

    British Transport Police said they received reports of two men fighting between Beckenham Junction and Shortlands railway stations shortly before 4pm on Wednesday.

    Rakeem Thomas, 19, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon. He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Wimbledon magistrates court.

    The victim, who is in his 20s, was taken to hospital and is in a “critical but stable condition”.

  3. Three men have been arrested on suspicion of preparing acts of terrorism in Greater Manchester.

    Four warrants were executed by officers in Bolton, Great Lever, Hindley and Abram around 7.30pm on Wednesday, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

    The men, aged 35, 36 and 51, were arrested at separate locations on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism.

    They were taken into custody for questioning and police remain in place at the four addresses as inquiries are conducted, the force said.

    Asst Chief Constable Rob Potts of Greater Manchester Police, responsible for counter-terrorism policing in the north west, said: “Today’s activity has been the culmination of much detailed planning and we have put measures in place to minimise disruption
