Europe’s Taylor Swift fans await icon with open arms for Paris concert • FRANCE 24 English

it is a big day for so-called swifties here in Paris American pop icon Taylor Swift is in the French Capital she kicks off the European leg of her eras tour tonight with the first in a series of four shows at the LA defance arena super fans have already been camped out for a few days to get Prime spots in the standing section and soak up the atmosphere for more we can cross to France 24’s new Resident Swifty Peter O’Brien who’s been speaking to fans outside the lon Arena Peter tell us what the crowd there is like it seems people have gone to Great Lengths to be able to be there that’s right I am a fully converted Swifty now if you’d ask me at 10: a.m. this morning around where we arrived whether whether I was a Swifty I’d probably be hesitant and now I’m fully converted the sun is out it’s an amazing atmosphere the fans have been absolutely lovely as you can see from the various friendship bracelets I’ve had a Thrust upon me unfortunately we’ve just lost the fans right next to me because um as far as I can see security has told a huge queue that was just here to all go backwards and if you I don’t know how far up you can see but it stretches back for kilometers this queue they’ve all been told to go around and join the queue that’s now filtering into the Parry ladder F Arena just behind us there so gates are open people are extremely excited to see first Paramore that band that was very popular during when I was a teenager and then of course Taylor Swift the world phenomenon who is one of the biggest artists of all time this of course is the highest grossing tour in music history and it’s just landed in Europe and Peter tell us more you know when you those fans were with you where where were people coming from how much had they paid for their tickets had they taken long flights to be there yeah so fans have come from absolutely all over I’ve been speaking to people from the US of whom there are a lot um Peru South Africa people have spent thousands um on the tickets alone up to I’ve heard up to $2,000 for a group of uh four that was just for the tickets um another another uh couple that was $11,000 uh for tickets here in Paris and of course you add on to that hotels flights Etc but nevertheless a lot cheaper than it has been to go to some of the um some of the tours stops in the United States so people are extremely happy to be here and as you say have camped out some of them to get the very best places at the front um of the stage for about two days um so yes the swifties are here Taylor Swift has landed and it’s all very exciting it is exciting Peter that concert about to get underway what are people you know most excited about and what do they love so much about Taylor Swift yeah so I’ll see if I can grab one the fans here excuse me does one of you want to speak to France 24 very quickly Come Along come along um so the presenters just asked me what are fans most excited about tonight can you tell me first your name where you’re from and then that I’m from Mar in French and I’m very uh exciting for to be see for the show and for to be see tlor Swift do you think we might hear her new album tonight yeah yeah I think she um going to be singing uh for night yeah um what era are you channeling may I may I ask what what’s era which era are you channeling um uh reputation there you have it Live from Paris Lon Arena thank you very much enjoy the show thank you they say it much better than I do Allison all right Peter thank you so much for that thanks to those fans I’m glad that you’re making friends and getting friendship bracelets really taking advantage of the atmosphere that’s France 24’s new Resident Swifty there Peter O’Brien reporting from uh the L defense Arena here in Paris where Taylor Swift’s European tour is about to get underway with her very first concert

  4. The wall to wall coverage of TS is merely reflective of the tastes of some of the staff of F24. Yet it also raises the curtain to unwittingly reveal their willingness to engage in advocacy journalism. We can see this exemplified many days in the packages that are uploaded to YouTube. The problem is that the frequent or near constant advocacy journalism we see on F24 and many other outlets crowds out legitimate news and begins to feel like a political mass education campaign. Educated and discerning viewers eventually tune out because they tire of being preached to instead of being allowed at least the pretense of being allowed to make up their own minds. This is the cardinal sin of woke ideology that has seeped into so much of the news and is having the result that people end up beginning to take oppositional positions out of exasperation, frustration, or a combination of both.
