Rishi Sunak leaving D-day early was ‘very wrong’ says Penny Mordaunt during TV debate

rishy sunak leaving the D-Day commemorations before the end of the day what happened was completely wrong and the Prime Minister has rightly apologized for that apologized to Veterans but also to all of us because he was representing all of us I’m from Portsmith I’ve also been defense secretary and my wish at the end of this week is that all of our veterans feel completely treasured would you have left D-Day early I I didn’t go to D-Day I think what happened was very wrong I think the Prime Minister has apologized for that but what I also think is important is we honor their legacy they fought for our freedom unless we are spending the right amount on defense we can’t honor that Legacy

To kick off the BBC’s live seven-party election debate, a question from the public was on Rishi Sunak’s absence at the D-day event in France where international leaders came together.

The prime minister has faced heavy criticism after leaving the 80th anniversary of D-day early to record a TV interview. The leader of the House of Commons, Penny Mordaunt, said Sunak’s early exit was ‘very wrong’ and ‘the prime minister has rightly apologised for that, apologised to veterans, but also to all of us he was representing’. She went on to say she was from Portsmouth and wishes ‘by the end of this week, all of our veterans feel completely treasured’

  1. So you guys took uk out of eu and completely dropped it in the hands of US who is clearly spiriling towards theocracy and erosion of civil rights. You achieved not even a single thing that was professed. The scam artist farage is still throwing his big empty words around trying to dump all on tory and wash himself clean from his sins. At the wxpense of what? Being even passport checked by french military for d day events. Think about it. Is uk better now than it was 15 years ago? I mean not the economics at all. The influnce and admiration uk had was something completely else.

  2. “Completely wrong” – yet the PM said his D-Day itinerary had been planned weeks ago. He planned weeks ago to walk away from an international commemoration with multiple world leaders at a time of war with Russia to give an election interview? Oh, that’s alright then. For a moment I thought he was a total disgrace but so long as he’d planned to leave weeks ago it’s alright. What an absolute shower.

  3. Let's not make our it's this that will decide the election it gives the Tories a easy scapegoat …. I'm more bothered the Tories only want to help high earners

  4. Johnson lied to the Queen and prorogued parliament and partied before Prince Philips funeral, Sunak leaves the D day event early what happened to the Tories being the party of the patriotic?

  5. The real reason why Sunak had left early from the D-Day event was because of a racist remark from the Geriatric President, wondering loudly if only Sunak had a beard like Modi, Sunak would be made a Maharajah, but because of being a Deputy sheriff to America, Sunak who had sounded the 4th of July as an independence day from the clutches of America imperialism, Sunak best move is to abandoned Bedin

  6. Sunak is never a PM, he's doesn't have the necessary intellect for the job, just like his predecessor and, the one before that ans so on. Penny Mordaunt is at best a Councillor, never a Politician and most certainly not a Minister.
