How cement could one day be carbon neutral | Transforming Business

can we make cement without carbon emissions one of the world’s largest producers think so it wants to pull carbon dioxide from cement production by capturing it at the Smoke Stack liquefying it on site and transporting it to be injected deep underground a process known as carbon capture and storage or CCS cement is a huge source of carbon emissions between 7 and 8% of the global total so CCS solves that problem right well it’s not so simple while the company claims that the carbon will be safely and permanently stored underground researchers aren’t sure if this is true over longer time periods it wouldn’t be great if millions of tons of stored CO2 were to leak but since cement is a pillar of Global Construction it’ll be hard to shift away from completely which begs the question

Like many heavy industries, Cement is looking to go CO2 neutral by 2050. Plans to produce “green cement” are heavily reliant on technologies that are still years away from real world implementation. One company is trialing new solutions at a plant in Rüdersdorf, Germany.

In the mid 1960s we stayed at my aunts tiny motel in a town of 2,000 and found out the next morning the train that regularly passed through had been carrying mustard gas(for the US Army I believe) to dump into the ocean. They selected small towns to transport it through. It continued till 1970s. Does anyone think those tanks at the bottom of the ocean have not leaked?? Why would they think these won’t leak or something else will happen to them and the ppl surrounding them. Find a better solution for the Earth please.
    Btw the USA was not alone in dumping toxins in the ocean.

  10. Incredible as this broadcast can be so short minded. If ciment production becomes "Neutral Carbon" but continues to urbanise and waterproofs areas contributing to erode biodiversity, this is an absolute nonsense !
