DR Congo militia kills more than 20 in village raid • FRANCE 24 English
militia massacres carried out late last week in the jugu territory of Eastern Congo’s iuri Province have claimed over 20 lives according to local sources the attacks were reportedly carried out in villages on June the 21st and 22nd by fighters from the codco militia one of the Region’s most deadly groups which claims to represent the ethnic lendu Community the exact death toll remains unclear with some officials referring to over 20 dead and others suggesting that nearly twice that number had been killed has were also torched in the attack and people kidnapped since late 2017 a conflict between the lendu and HMA communities has raged in a turri province with both the kadeo militia and its rival the zir militia engaging in tit fortat attacks in which civilians often pay the price the latest massacre in aturi has come after several militias signed a government brokered peace agreement on April 26th which now appears to have broken down it also follows a series of massacres in the region this month committed by the Allied Democratic Forces Group which is Affiliated to the Islamic State
Militia fighters on Friday killed more than 20 civilians in a village in the gold-rich Ituri province in northeast Democratic Republic of Congo, local sources said. The sources blamed the Cooperative for the development of Congo (Codeco) militia for the killings. Codeco claims to be fighting for the interests of the Lendu tribe against the rival Hema tribe. Hate to side with Rwanda knowing they actively fund the M23, but now I see why they need the M23. Where the hell is the DRC's National Army. These rebels don't have aircraft carriers or fighter jets, some of them use some of the most crude homemade weapons imaginable and still the DRC's National Army can't control anything in the East. It's ridiculous that this has been going on for over 30 years.
