Is it time to change our voting system at general elections?

introducing the idea that you should never have to tactically vote that proportional representation in some form is where we should be going because it’s the you know first pass the post it’s archaic it’s nonsense there was a referendum in the Coalition years between 2010 and 2015 on changing the voting system it wasn’t a massive success I have to see we’re in a very different time to then even 10 years has changed how people feel and social media has changed a lot of that as well I would really like to live in you know a world where every body votes for what they want people choose to vote on what’s important to them and for some people that will be changing the government for some people it will be the party that they’ve always supported man and boy we don’t get to make that choice for the voters of this country however the Tactical voting guides that exist whether it’s carols whether it’s the ones in the newspapers wherever the ones you can find online are telling people what the likely outcome of their vote might be and and I guess that’s where you get into a decision about you know what are the merits and demerits of that

  1. ISit time to change the voting system…….. Yes its about time honesty was brought back starting with doing away with wholesale postal voting which is open to fraud and block voting 🤮🤮

  2. I remember there being a referendum on bringing in the AV ( Alternative Vote), a very poor form of PR. I think one reason why it was defeated so heavily was because, thanks to Clegg propping up Cameron for 5 years and changing over to fixed term Parliaments, we were stuck with a Government not one person in the country actually voted for. The Liberals helped to bring in austerity and went back on their pledges over tuition. Therefore, bringing in a voting system that would allow the Liberals to always be a part of the Government was the last thing anyone wanted, hence their near wipeout in 2015.

  3. Of course there should be Proportional Representation. The problem is that the big two parties benefit from this flawed FPTP system. We are stuck with bad and even worse.

  4. Im guessing Torys will be all for it when the Torys are wiped of the electoral map even after they tried to make it harder for people to vote in the hope it would benefit them, literal voter suppression photo ID because all of the voter fraud there is no examples of any voter fraud Tory accountability has been a long time coming but Labour is tory lite anyway

  5. All this “we need proportional representation” talk will die down once the people campaigning for it get in power who they want (i.e., labour supporters will have no qualms with proportional representation once a Starmer)
