We had it all. You could get drunk in the middle of the day and watch people fight lions and each other to the death at the coliseum. There was working plumbing. There was administration. Europe fell into darkness for like a thousand years after that. I think loss of knowledge is the greatest tragedy of all and this illustrates it. How much more have we lost, the library of Alexandria etc. It’s like we live under one of those Greek curses, we gain incredible amounts of knowledge only doomed to lose and have to repeat building it again in a tragic cycle
