A thought at 38

It's my birthday today and I'm 38, I realised what my expectations and realitys are….

When I was younger, I thought I would still be out clubbing etc you know all the normal cliches

I just didn't realise how different it really would be, Monday night sat at home with the misses after a heavy one on the wine last night

We have had dinner and there were some chips left, I love mint sauce and chips, it's just a good accompaniment, some how at 7:30pm on my 38th birthday we are eating spoonfuls of mint sauce and drinking some more white wine, the dog is all hype as we are hyping each other to eat another spoonful of mint sauce, forgetting for a minute that she bloody hates mint sauce and then does a weird dance trying to get the mint sauce and then realising she hates it again,

Anyway all this to say, this couldn't be a better birthday, things are good and I'm enjoying the small things

  1. u/websey you know you have made it sound like I am doing the dance and not remi 🤣

  2. Had a similar one last month (35). Feels good, I don’t feel like I am missing anything. The dog licking my stupid face, the missus happy, me drinking some good red. Living a good life. Happy birthday, mate.

  3. As you only see the “Title” and pics on the CasualUK sub I thought that your “thought at 38” was “does mint sauce pair well with dog”.

  4. Lovely post. I’m being made redundant and it’s kinda stressing me (I have 6 months of savings so should be ok) but this post reminded me to remember to enjoy those little moments of content and happiness. Cheers OP.

  5. Happy birthday young man (I’m 40, so I get to call you that).

Personally, I’m a lot happier in my 40’s than I was in my 30’s. And I was happier in my 30’s than my 20’s. Aging is underrated.

  6. Hello birthday twin!

43 here and I spent the day at the arcades and eating ice cream. Got home and had pizza with the husband, my folks and the dog. Perfection.

  7. Reading this on my phone the app puts the word “less” at the end of the post, so I thought the OP said he enjoys things less.

  8. I fucking love mint sauce don’t care what roast I’m having I ask for some gravy to be put aside for me to mix mint sauce into

Happy birthday and give the doggo a pet from me

  9. Firstly happy birthday man, secondly I’m glad you have the life at 38 you deserve, happiness with the one you love really is the meaning of life.

  10. Happy Birthday my friend! I hope you can continue finding joy in the small things in life. From an Internet stranger, I’m incredibly glad you’ve had a good birthday!

I hope when I’m around your age I can have similar little experiences of joy! For now, I’m still in the clubbing age

Although I must say, I absolutely despise mint sauce!

  11. Hey man happy birthday, we share a birthday so uhh, guess that makes us related. Hope you enjoyed yourself 🙂

  12. It’s also my birthday today (48). Sat in a caravan in rainy and windy North Devon, drinking Stormtrooper beers given to me for my birthday. I haven’t got any mint sauce, or a dog, but I’ve also had an excellent day, with my soon to be wife. Happy birthday mate, I’m glad you had a good one. Great to know what’s important.

  13. Happy Birthday! Couple of questions: are you sharing the spoon with your dog? Are you double dipping the jar?
