Traveling Germany By Train

I will be visiting Germany this month and will be using there train network to travel across the country and I’m a little confused on how the booking system works.

When I tick book seat only all the options are €5.20 but when this option isn’t ticked they’re vary price. Can someone explain why I thought it would just be the bar cost for booking the seat and it would add the additional fare for the train but it allows me to go all the way to checkout the price staying at €5.20

Any help would be appreciated

  1. The €5.20 is only for the seat, which you can book but do not have to. You still need the ticket, regardless of whether you have a reservation or not.

For the €5.20, you have probably selected the option „seat reservation only“ (or something similar in the English version). To reserve the ticket and a seat, select the ticket and add the reservation in the next step or the step after that.
