French snap elections: ‘What matters is mathematics right now’ • FRANCE 24 English

well what matters is mathematics right now you have to reach that magic number 289 uh so yes mathematics yes but if you add uh the numbers if you split uh the leftist alliance that could happen uh they could fight over the program over Jean luk melanon all the other parties the three have said we don’t want Jean luk melanon as our prime minister they’ve said it they’ve repeated it and this they’re not going to choose sry yeah no no but they don’t want so you could argue emuel mcon also has said we don’t want LF so he could say okay let’s sit down together if you add the maon camp the Socialist the greens the Communist some unaffiliated MPS you could even throw in the 60 or so MPS from what remains of the uh conservative closer to the center they’re uh well they’re closer to the center than the far right but that’s not such perform within them who are CL Center so you could you could have a majority the pro the problem is agree on a name and agree on a program we heard uh and not only je ol for the leader of the Socialist Party our conditions is let’s say a repeal of the pension reform this was a hardfought reform will the maon C be able to swallow that repeal this pension that reform that they fought so hard to get through Parliament and we know how hard it was and so that’s obviously a lot of if but this is the only other majority uh that that exists uh if not obviously the national rally is not going to find allies uh the France unbal is going to have a hard time finding allies uh so it’s either that or you have a hung Parliament and this could be a world of trouble

A coalition of the French left that quickly banded together to beat a surging far right in legislative elections won the most seats in parliament but not a majority, according to polling projections Sunday. “What matter is mathematics right now,” FRANCE 24’s Marc Perelman said, pointing to the 289 seats needed to form a majority in French Parliament.

  1. The French people despise the far right so much, that they´re willing to tolerate even the far left. That´s how repulsive Le Pen and her cronies are.

  2. This outcome demonstrates the ability of Politicians in the West to manipulate the outcome of an election result. I'm glad that there is 23 miles of water between our two countries because France is becoming unrecognisable.

  3. National Rally: 31.5% – 138 seats

    left-wing New Popular Front (NFP): 27.99% – 177 sseats

    Macron’s Ensemble alliance: 20.76% – 152 seats

National Rally got the most votes and got the least seats and became third……………… Democrazy……………… Well…. At least the left is not burning down Paris again….

  4. Only two things matter, fix illegal migration, and stand united with ukraine to stop putin !… That is fate deciding issues in Europe !

  5. How can I take this channel seriously when you are calling a party that came in 3rd place far right? Is there a far left? Be fair in your reporting.

  6. Far left is apparently a synonym for good! Lenin, Stalin, Castro, pol pot, Mao Zedong and Peron. Even Mussolini’s fascism is a big government worker/union ideology….the opposition would be libertarianism or anarcho-capitalism. This movement seem to be an ultra “progressive” one global govt movement…with a common policy on climate, environment, moral relativism , economics, mono culture, quasi secularist, uniform politics and rule by technocrats.
