well Russia has reinvented its stores after Western firms pulled out of the country following the war in Ukraine footage reveals that Goods by Western companies are still readily available in Russian shops but the storefronts are now under a different brand name even luxury brands are still represented in Russian shopping malls as a newly released Apple products take a look [Music] it’s been 2 years since McDonald’s packed its bags and exited Russia following the invasion of Ukraine the iconic American chain shut down over 800 Outlets across Russia after 32 years and left behind 62,000 employees as hundreds of Western Brands exited the country it was the end of an ER for generations of Russians who got a taste of capitalism and American culture through the fast food joint many feel bitter to deal with the war they didn’t choose for those who enjoyed golden arches it was almost like hope leaving the country this led to evolution of several Russian fast food brands Kus ioska and rostic are some of them koska has successfully rebranded over 860 Outlets across the country the fast food chain has outperformed McDonald’s after just 2 years of operations Russian food lovers barely find any difference between Kusa ioska and McDonald’s burgers I visit kushna itka once in a month kushna itka seems another name for McDonald’s all the items served here are delicious and no I do not miss McDonald’s the company claims to have 1.8 million people coming through its doors daily the company is very popular in Russia everybody loves it it’s a very good place this is similar to McDonald’s in many ways it did not lose many clients similarly Russia has revived its love for fried chicken by replacing KFC with rosti many Russians have encouraged replacing Western chains with homegrown Alternatives there has also been a Push by many to ditch American fast food as a whole as much as the country rejects Western symbols out of patriotism I’m here in kushna itka this was earlier McDonald’s and quite uh popular it remains we know that McDonald’s left Russia after the start of the war the Russia Ukraine war and many Western bands also left but that did not stop life here they of course uh are being run by Russian companies now and as we spoke to many people here they provide similar services and people are quite happy with it with video journalist Nash Patel sanul for Von in Moscow Russia [Music]

Since all the food supplies and infrastructure was already in Russia it was simply a matter of changing the most senior management and the company names. It would have been very surprising if the Russian takeover hadn't gone very smoothly.
