some breaking news to bring you now and it’s been confirmed by the Spanish Civil guard that the search has been called off to find the missing British teenager Jay Slater that news that’s just come in well let’s go straight to our correspondent Nick Garnet who is in tenie and who has been following this story uh Nick just bring us up today on what exactly the Civil guard has told us well yesterday They carried out a large search of the area wanted to to create as me with as many people as they possibly could they brought in voluntary fire service from nearby towns um civil guards uh National Police uh they had a helicopter flying and they also had uh other equipment in the area however nothing was found in that search and now the decision’s been taken to step down the search the uh civil guards say that if new information comes to light and is brought to their attention that they will investigate that as a matter of course the they also say that the family have been informed of the position now uh Jay’s father was at the search yesterday along with Jay’s older brother uh they would have probably been informed at that point that this was happening it had been suggested that this might be the point at which the searches is stepped back that they had done everything they possibly could this is like searching for a needle in a Hast stack uh it is incredibly difficult it’s in a very rough and Rural um terrain uh with with huge amounts of problems for getting around and actually searching and the situation is is that despite two weeks of searching nothing has been found which points to where Jay actually is

The search for British teenager Jay Slater, missing in Tenerife, has been called off, police have said.

โ€œThe search operation is over. Yesterday was the final day of the search,” Tenerife’s Guardia Civil told the BBC.

The 19-year-old from Lancashire, England, has been missing since 17 June, after he told a friend he was lost in the mountains.

Police carried out a new search on Saturday with the help of dozens of emergency workers near the village of Masca, in the Rural de Teno national park.

So so sad, but its like looking for a needle in a haystack up there and they don't know exactly where he went off the road into the mountain ๐Ÿ˜ข without water and shade he had little chance of making it back to his resort. My heart goes out to his family, they must be absolutely devastated ๐Ÿ˜ข

  6. This is so sad! My prayers are with Jay and the family. I know what he's done in the past and that is something seriously horrendous and in my opinion should have resulted in a harsher punishment but I do not know the details of his involvement. A 19 year old young lad is possibly lost forever now, his Mother in particular is most likely going to face the unbearable pain.of not ever seeing her son again or even giving him a funeral if he is deceased and that is cruel beyond belief

  8. GFM need to regulate exactly where the money is being spent! Not just allow the person to completely withdraw all the money for their own benefit!
    Hopefully they are getting benefit money in the UK and the government will stop their benefits! The whole thing has been a set up and the girl who set up the GFM, ha done this before Alledgedly!!! Needs investigation!

  14. Iโ€™m sure some people said that they saw jays mum getting her nails done whiles police were looking for jay and then a guy on TikTok said that itโ€™s only for the cameras the story not adding up ๐Ÿ˜ข like why would you be getting your nails done when your son is missing?

  16. Itโ€™s extremely concerning that the search has been called off. I canโ€™t imagine what Jayโ€™s family are going through. I promise to never go on holiday to Spain or the Canary Islands ever again and will ensure my children never do either. I will not contribute my hard earned cash to their economy. I imagine that Tenerife relies heavily on tourism, therefore the safety of tourists and displaying their concern for them should be paramount as the world is watching this tragedy unfold. The actions, refusal of Uk police help and lack of actions speaks volumes to me.

  20. The Spanish police shouldnโ€™t be criticised. They correctly focused on that mountain as a credible witness Lucy a close friend told them he was lost in the mountains trying to get home. In this situation you have to act fast to save a life. As the story unfolds itโ€™s turning out to be something more and itโ€™s understandable the search is going to be called off.

My friend is asking for refund on go fund me as was kindly given for jay and to help find him ,not flying pals over and feeding and accommodation for them all and since they haven't spent even 1p its a disgrace i would of paid specialist teams few days in as they had 30 k then also the mother and pals not one has put any effort in to going to find him all they do is complain and call the police and public not grateful one bit

  31. So a little boy loses his life on Crosby beach in Liverpool and the search lasted less then 24 hours…… This lad decided going on a hike through a bunch of mountains with 1% battery life in a different country, that search lasted 2 weeks with media coverage everywhere……
