Russia sends understaffed reserve units to the front in Ukraine – ISW

Russia sends understaff to reserve units to the front in Ukraine isw the Russian military command is sending underere equipped and understaffed units from the operational Reserve to the front to support the assaults in eastern Ukraine Russian military commanders may have committed underere equipped units that were originally intended to act as operational reserves to combat perhaps due to limitations in Russia’s defense industrial base or efforts to bolster ongoing Russian grinding attacks in Ukraine The Institute for the study of War report said analysts recall the statement of Ukrainian military Observer Constantin mashvet who reported on July the 13th that the Russian Federation plans to form the 27th motorized rifle division as an operational reserve of the central group of forces which operates in the abdika and tetk directions in the future according to the expert these soldiers could be sent to the battlefield in the event of counter offensive by the Ukrainian armed forces in the abdika direction or a Russian offensive in the Tet Direction however instead the Russians transferred the 433rd motorized rifle Regiment of the 27th motorized rifle division which is staffed by the degraded remnants of the 21st motorized rifle Brigade to the area Northwest of abiva until its combat capability was fully restored moreover the 506th and 589th motor ized rifle regiments were transferred to the tetk direction even before the units reached the planned deadlines back in March mashvet said that the Russian military command was going to equip units of the 27th motorized rifle division with only 87% of the required amount of weapons and equipment and planned to prepare the 433rd 56th and 598 motorized rifle regiments for combat in late spring or early summer of 2024 now the institute for the study of War has noted for the first time that units of the 27th motorized rifle division operated near abiva in April 2024 and near tet in early July 2024 the fact that these regiments were deployed earlier than planned May indicate that the Russians fell behind the planned Staffing and Armament shedule and were unable to equip these units to the Target of 87% the isw has previously pointed out that Russia’s deployment efforts create a small number of additional forces that are not immediately sent to the front as reinforcements to gradually build up operational reserves but it is unlikely that these asbs are capable of fully supporting their reserves analysts suggest that the early deployment of these units is intended to support the offensive operations of the occupying Army [Music] [Music] spee now that fore [Music] spe speech oh

The Russian military command is sending under-equipped and understaffed units from the operational reserve to the front to support the assaults in eastern Ukraine.

“Russian military commanders may have committed under-equipped units that were originally intended to act as operational reserves to combat, perhaps due to limitations in Russia’s defense industrial base or efforts to bolster ongoing Russian grinding attacks in Ukraine,” the Institute for the Study of War report said.

Analysts recalled the statement of Ukrainian military observer Konstantin Mashovets, who reported on July 13 that the Russian Federation plans to form the 27th Motorized Rifle Division as an operational reserve of the Central Group of Forces, which operates in the Avdiivka and Toretsk directions. In the future, according to the expert, these soldiers could be sent to the battlefield in the event of a counteroffensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Avdiivka direction or a Russian offensive in the Toretsk direction.

However, instead, the Russians transferred the 433rd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 27th Motorized Rifle Division, which is staffed by the degraded remnants of the 21st Motorized Rifle Brigade, to the area northwest of Avdiivka until its combat capability was fully restored.

Moreover, the 506th and 589th motorized rifle regiments were transferred to the Toretsk direction even before the units reached the “planned deadlines.”
