  1. This will be a big ask.

Crimea is something that the Russians wont lose without a fight, and I think a fight in Crimea is where Russia starts panicking and goes gloves off.

As well, while it’s Ukraine’s right to retake what it sees as occupied terrority, will the international backing and supplies keep following through for a total victory?

  2. Tried already and failed miserably, things are even worse for them now. But it’s just PR.

  3. People may laugh, but it might actually be easier than recapturing the occupied territories in the East. Prior to the Invasion, Russia had already massive troubles keeping Crimea supplied, drinking water alone was a huge problem. They now have their land bridge and things got easier, but if, lets say, a certain bridge were to be destroyed, and Ukraine got far enough south to get those Rails and Roads supplying Crimea into firing range, things on Crimea would start deteriorating, just like they did in Kherson in 22.

Its basically a (somewhat) risk-free approach where Ukraine would just slowly erode Russias position until it becomes untenable. They already forced the retreat of the Black Sea Fleet without having a navy themselves, so in theory all of the coastlines are ready for the taking (obviously not going to happen, although my gamer brain would love to see Call of duty – style amphibious attacks)

But all this has to be taken with a massive grain of salt of course, as it stands Ukraine is barely holding on against massive russian pushes all across the front. The “best” they can do is keeping loss ratios as small as possible and trade territory for time. I dont see Ukraine starting any large offensives anytime soon. Even with western aircraft and more long range fires, the Russian are dug in so well, I dont even know where you would try to force a breakthrough.
