Trump shooter a ‘supporter of Republican Party’ • FRANCE 24 English

The FBI identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania as the suspect in Saturday’s attempted assassination of former US President Donald Trump at a campaign rally. State voter records show that Crooks was a registered Republican. The upcoming Nov. 5 election would have been the first time Crooks had been old enough to vote in a presidential race. FRANCE 24 International Affairs Editor Philip Turle brings you this analysis.

  1. You are lying. You don’t know that he’s a supporter of the Republican Party.
See New York Times reporting this morning: “The gunman did not have a criminal history reflected in Pennsylvania’s public court records, and officials said they had not identified a motive. A voter-registration record showed that Mr. Crooks was registered as a Republican, though federal campaign-finance records show he donated $15 to the Progressive Turnout Project, a liberal voter turnout group, through the Democratic donation platform ActBlue in January 2021.”

  2. Crooks was ONLY 20 years old — so technically he never voted in presidential election THEREFORE IT would be his first election
He registered that way for shock value — It worked – trying to be center stage to be famous or noted in history books. 📚 MORE 🤔 INTERESTING He donated to ACTBLUE 🔵MAYBE THAT IS MORE ACCURATE TO HIS TRUE FOLLOWING.

  3. Being a registered member of the Republican party does not mean he is a supporter. I live in Virginia, and I have voted in the other party's primary because my party did not have a good "other option," so I would vote in the other primary in order to possibly get someone that I would prefer for the other side to choose.

I am a fan viewer of France24, but they need to be more careful about facts before reporting things like this. The only fact is that he voted in the Republican primary in 2022. Rhetoric like this is dangerous because it will be a falsehood that will carry forward for a long time.

  4. 4:33 – I am surprised that they have to confirm that he had contact with Democrats, but they did not need to research deeper before making the leap that since he voted in the Republican primary, he must have been a supporter. France24, please talk to some Americans who actually vote in PA before jumping to more conclusions.

  5. He is a registered Republican but has donated to a Democratic-aligned group on the day Biden got inaugurated. Being registered for one party or another doesn’t mean anything. I can be registered for one party but vote for another.

  6. Registering for Republican Party just lets you vote in their primaries and influence the party. He also donated to act blue. He’s a leftist

  7. 'supporter of Republican Party', yeah, sure he was. He voted for Bernie Sanders and donated to code blue.
Truth: Pennsylvania has a closed primary system. That means you can only vote for the candidates in the party you are registered for in the primaries. Biden already had the nomiation for the Demonrat Party sewn up, so this lost soul decided to register Republican so he could vote against Trump in the primary. It's not hard.

  8. He wasn't a Republican supporter. He was a Biden supporter and donated to Biden. Like many in Antifa, he switched to become a registered Republican so he could vote in Republican Primaries to try and effect the outcome.

  9. That's a very irresponsible headline, France24. The sh00ter registered as a Republican, but donated money to the Democrats, so you cannot state as fact that he was "a supporter of the Republican party." You should be ashamed of yourselves.

  10. I've voted Republican most of my life. Still would never vote for Trump. It's obviously this kid had issues. No one in their sane mind would do something like this. It insane to blame democrats. The problem is that people live in bubbles and hear the same rhetoric over and over. It happens on both sides. That is why it's important to always research all topics and policies. It's not like Trump and some democrats are innocent about rhetoric. I was sadden by what happen not because they shot Trump but because our country is so divided. There are plenty of social media outlets that push the rhetoric for clicks and views. That needs to stop. Everyone should be blocking these people and outlets. They are not good for the mental mind.

  11. First off crooks lived in a state of Pennsylvania where you can only vote for the party you are affiliated with, second leftists were told to register Republican so they could disrupt Trump's campaign. All that aside he donated to Brandon's campaign and he has a video of himself ranting and raving about how he hates Trump and the Republican party. Now please explain to me how he's a Republican that claims he hates Republicans and donates money to Brandon?

  12. It really doesn’t matter how he was registered, that’s not what’s the most important thing here. The reason is an individual, individuals don’t always represent the mindset of a group.

What is important, is how did the left and right react to what he did? The vast majority of the right were appalled, shocked and deeply concerned for everyone shøt. While too many on the left were disappointed he missed DJT and ignored the other people shøt. While at the same time downplaying the reporting of what actually happened.

So let’s stop pretending that how he was registered, tells all we need to know about this. No, the reaction from both sides, tells us all we need to know about this.
