  1. >Lithuanian authorities are drawing up plans for mass evacuations of civilians in case of an armed conflict, the LRT public broadcaster reported on July 25, citing the country’s Interior Ministry.

    >Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine exacerbated fears of a potential open conflict between Moscow and NATO.

    >Bordering Russia’s ally Belarus and the heavily armed Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, Lithuania would be one of the first countries threatened by such a clash.

    >Priority would be given to families with young children, pregnant women, and people with disabilities.

    >Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite also said the plans would include international transfers and that the matter has already been discussed with neighboring countries.

    >In light of Russia’s war against Ukraine, civil preparedness measures have been under review also in Latvia and Estonia.

Cue American Redditors laughing as usual because they think this is something funny, or perhaps writing about NATO “warmongering” (or “fearmongering”, a variant mongering).

As far as I know there are no such (public) evacuation plans here in Poland, just civil defense preparations including building bomb shelters. The defense minister was also strongly criticised for talking about having his personal emergency backpack ready (https://www.reddit.com/r/UkrainianConflict/comments/1con0mj/polish_defense_minister_fends_off_criticism_after/).

Edit: Apparently Warsaw residents (in this particular case) are expected to “self evacuate” and there is no plan, but some other cities do have plans (listed are Kraków, Poznań, Bydgoszcz, Białystok, Katowice, Siedlce, Gdynia, Zabrze and Ruda Śląska, while likes of Łódź, Szczecin and Skierniewice also don’t have it): https://www.o2.pl/informacje/kompletny-chaos-w-razie-wojny-mieszkancy-maja-dokonac-samoewakuacji-6989886818589664a

    >Warsaw, Mińsk Mazowiecki and Stalowa Wola have not developed a plan. Mińsk Mazowiecki and Stalowa Wola are also important cities in wartime. There is an air base of the Air Force in Mińsk, and in the event of a conflict, the city would face an attack first. Stalowa Wola is a center of the arms industry.

  2. Our Baltic brothers and sisters are more than welcome in the Nordic countries. It’s not that big of a gap between Lithuania and Finland. Land-route southwest may not be any safer. We could mass-organize ferries, ships and boats.

  3. It’s good and all, but I would be happier to hear about mass shelter building. At the moment we have schools and other big building basements, but nothing specialized to withstand rocket and drone strikes. We would for sure get smacked a lot, no matter the preparedness of AD.

  4. I’m glad to read this. Evacuation plans are sometimes we’ve been preparing in Finland for decades.

Maybe coming over here could be one direction?
