  1. Went to my dads for Sunday lunch today and he’d made apple and blackberry crumble with berries from his garden. Maybe not a classic summer desert but it was absolutely delicious (with clotted cream ice cream AND double cream)

  2. Not round here they’re not yet. Plenty of rhubarb and windfall apples though..

  3. Above waist height remember!

Was walking to the football the other evening and a girl bent down and grabbed a blackberry around ankle height. 🤢

  4. Gotta say, the blackberries that you can find ripening now are escaped cultivated blackberries that have spread from gardens and allotments. They have larger stems and leaves than wild ones, and the flavour is sharper and less subtle. Wild blackberries start ripening in the south of England around the second week of August.

We’ve got a lot of both escaped and wild blackberries round here, which makes for a long season. You betcha we are on it!

  5. I noticed a few ripe blackberries on the bushes near where I live, as I was coming home from shopping earlier today. I might have to pick a few to make a blackberry and apple crumble. Getting pricked by thorns and stung by nettles isn’t nice, but the rewards at the end make it worthwhile.

  6. I fondly remember blackberry picking with my grandparents. My favourite things to make are blackberry crumble cake or blackberry apple crumble. And compote or jam!
