It makes too much sense, the Republicans will never let it pass.
How about term limits for members of Congress? Both houses.
I feel like the term limit should be like six or eight years
That last picture is certain members of the Supreme Court having a heart attack at the thought of being regulated. Good.
I’d be on board if the 18 year term was extended to Congress.
Judicial branch (SCOTUS) is equal to executive branch (president). I would not celebrate an assault by one equal branch on another. It is by definition a power grab and creation of a unilateral autocrat.
We may not like it in the short term, but we need to keep the built-in checks and balances for a good reason long-term.
…and Senators and Members of the HOR. Yes!
My conservative uncle was like “you know this means liberals can’t stack the supreme court either.” He grew very agitated when i told him that was the point. They just can’t wrap their heads around the concept that it isn’t “us vs. them” it’s about what’s best for the country.
I’m all for 100% of these items, but it feels a little lame of him to roll this out now. This was Year 1 stuff, and had he been more aggressive with this stuff, he might not have faced so much opposition from his base.
Feels very performative/pandery. You know goddamned well Biden doesn’t give a shit about those things. You can tell what’s important based on what he actually fights for beyond words.
How about age limits for congress (both houses), judgeships (all federal) and all executive positions?
At 75 you get a very nice jacket, a party with cake, an emiratis position and can spend more time with your family.
Changing the constitution is not the answer. Old Joe just needs to go in and fire (aka offer them nice golden parachutes) Thomas, Alito and friends and re-stock the bench with fair judges.
I really wish the proposed amendment was that no one is above the law, including judges, police, congress, etc.
Expand the court
He needs to stack the court. Something he can actually do. Proposals for reforms that require bicameral support are dead in the water, no matter how well intentioned or how necessary they are.
Vote down ballet. Only way this gets done is we get rid of those who would stone wall these changes. Having the White House means little if we don’t have the other chambers.
Term limits are near impossible because it would require an amendment which again is near impossible because it requires 2/3rds of both chambers (never going to happen) and 3/4ths of the states. So Biden is just uselessly pandering suggesting it. He should’ve done something to expand the court because it probably could’ve just been done by getting Dinos Manchin and Sinema to drop the filibuster. Term limits of the court is DOA
The irony being Trump’s bestie is in the meme. Maybe they’ll end up sharing a cell.
How about also not having the president or Congress appoint judges. Or allowing the president to pardon anything but a Turkey.
Realistically, what’s the fastest we could see all three happen?
