This is a project i did in an hour today during a slow friday workday
I noticed reddits “popular” page was overwhelmingly political so i took the first 10 most popular posts on each websites front page. Logged out, browser cleared and on the front page with showing the front page to avoid any algo/user data
I was only counitng political posts initially (reddit has so many elections, trump bashing posts) but I expanded it to Sociopolitical so that includes posts discussing LGBT rights, immigration rights, abortion rights, etc
Yes, it’s obvious as someone that frequents other sites how politically charged Reddit is in comparison.
The three 9gag political posts are probably straight up nazi defenders though… such a shame how much that site went downhill despite already starting out quite low…
9gag is alive? imgur is alive?
Yes because every other platform will ban you if you express your honest opinion
That’s part of why I like it!
Reddit is 90% bots these days and you can’t change my mind.
ah, yes, the 4 front pages of the internet
Tik tok is all non-political? What?
Reddit is insanely left leaning. I constantly see pics about something stupid Trump did, or something wonderful Harris did.
I couldn’t give one shit, I’m not an American, but it’s pretty clear which side Reddit pushing hard.
Even non political subs turned very political here. A shame to see how far this site has fallen from its glory years.
I mean, probably 5 times a day over on /pics theres someone saying something about trump. They’ve got some weird fetish over there
Ah yes, all the big social medias are here, Reddit, imgur and 9gag.
This site has been heavily astroturfed for as long as I can remember, but I really think it went into overdrive in 2015-2016 and it’s been getting worse and worse ever since.
I have like 20+ blatant propaganda subs filtered because I really can’t stand seeing them popping up on the front page.
Probably correlates to the average age of the user base.
My tik tok has become 90% politics. Both the for you page and tik tok live. Its become so political heavy i texted someone else and asked them is their algorithm that way now as well.
And. I hate it. Been avoiding all of it because people are so out of touch with reality i wanna scream.
Reddits front page isn’t dictated by an algorithm, unlike the other sites listed.
Reddits front page is based on popularity. There’s a different discussion on how much of it is legitimate. But that’s where I think the data is a little misleading.
You know it’s bullshit when it shows no political post on Tiktok lol. I can scroll 10 posts without bumping into 1.
Are there people out there just browsing imgur like how one would browse reddit? I figured most people only go there when someone links a specific picture, like if they’re using a format that doesn’t otherwise allow pictures.
I’m not disagreeing with the data tho. Reddit is very political, part of why I don’t see it is because i block lots of subs and don’t go on popular or all, I’m pretty sure I’ve gone less than 10 times to either of them this year. The random stuff on the home feed can be interesting and often nicely non-political. But anytime I was logged out and just seeing the default feed, ya there’s politics. (and sports.)
It’s Reddit political post that makes me realize how delusional many people are
You’re telling me that a discussion site has more political posts than media presentation sites? I’m astonished.
