Maduro’s a socialist? He doesn’t sound like a socialist.
“Risks becoming”? It’s been a police state for decades.
Venezuela is both a dictatorship and a kleptocracy. This result isn’t surprising. Vast fossil fuel reserves, especially when the industry is state-controlled, usually leads to authoritarian rule and rampant political corruption.
It’s a sad situation, but it does appear that these regimes have become more resilient in recent years.
Usually you look up people who try and overthrow the government. Biden and the Democrats should know about it.

I guess the coup attempt failed again
Venezuela going full US
Even if the opposition survives I don’t see how this doesn’t result in a civil war of some sorts. Although the opposition clearly won the election, a good 25% or so of the country–largely government functionaries, elites, people with power–support Maduro, and most are concentrated in the major cities. They’re not going down without a fight because they know once Maduro is gone they’re not just out of power but will lose their livelihoods and even be prosecuted for their crimes.
