  1. Simply the greatest Olympian of all time. Forget about all those swimmers and gymnasts with a billion events each. Mijan Lopez has one event to compete in every Olympic cycle, and he has won it FIVE times in a row. Beijing, London, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo and Paris. He has eclipsed the much more famous Karelin now, undeniably.

And he just retired. What a titan.

  2. Most gold medals in any individual event of all time. What a monster, what a career.

  3. The greatest of all time – the only Olympian EVER to win individual gold in 5 straight Olympics

  4. Congrats Cuba, what an absolute legend.
Only gave away two points in the process at 41 years of age and one was to Mirzazadeh

  5. As far as I can tell, only two Olympians have ever won five in a row before…

Hipposthenes of Sparta in 608 BC and Milo of Croton in 516 BC. So not for 2539 years, and both wrestlers too!

  6. 5 Olympics = 16 YEARS still on top and unstoppable. It’s a phenomenal achievement for an athlete.

  7. Truly legendary! Especially at the age of 41. Wrestling fans and wrestlers like me will immortalize him as the GOAT!

  8. His entire career is phenomenal. Looking at his Wikipedia, he’s also won a handful of World Championships and numerous regional events. He could very well be one of the most dominant athletes in history.

  9. Such a friggin beast… I don’t watch much… or any.. wrestling outside of Olympics, but I know this guys name!

  10. His gut wrench must be insane. The way he is able to consistently gut wrenches some of the best guys in the world. is crazy.

  11. It was a Cuban vs Cuban fight, amazing 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 the athlete competing for Chile is also cuban born and raised, super proud of them both. Mijain is not only the best but it’s also a super humble human being!!!!

  12. If this guy was American, everyone would call him the greatest athlete who ever lived. For me, he’s the GOAT wrestler and athlete. The sheer length of time at the top, and the way he dominates is crazy to see. I also think Greco Roman is much more physically and mentally taxing than basketball or swimming. If you have wrestled, you know how torturous of a sport it is on the body and mind. This guy is built different for sure.

  13. As a former wrestler, to do what this man has done, at his age, absolutely mindblowing. I know all Olympics sports are hard in their own ways but the physical toll that this sport does to your body, I think i would be dead if I did it for as long as him. He completely annihilated his bracket too. I know he retired at the end but if he wanted to give another go in LA, I think he could definitely medal at the very least, if not Gold again. Mijain is a GOAT in wrestling

  14. Just found out about this guys streak today and idk how I missed it but I do know he is, in my opinion, far and away the greatest Olympian of all time.

I don’t really get the discourse on “there’s too many swimming events” but I do agree that if you’re gonna rank olympians you can’t really rely on number of golds/medals because of the amount of events varying between them.

Peaking at the right time for an Olympics is impressive, and Phelps’s 8 golds in Beijing was undoubtedly the most impressive single games performance for me, but being the best in the world in your event at 5 straight Olympics is just a completely different level for me

THIS DUDE COMPETED AT ATHENS. WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK

  15. One of the best olympians of all time

I put him personally with phelps and bot in term of legendary olympians

  16. Absolute legend. I always rooted for him against Kayaalp so it’s great to see him retire on best terms.

  17. The greatest achievement in these games, a true legend, check out the video of his mum & family & friends back home in Cuba. Well done man.
