If you could remove one sport from the Olympics which sport would it be and why?

  1. Anything equestrian. Multiple scandals around horse welfare, one in the UK leading up to this Olympics and one in the modern pentathlon last Olympics that I know of.

While it is a physical skill, it is less so than other sports, and more about the quality (and cost) of the horse.

Luckily, modern pentathlon are realising this, and are replacing their equestrian section with an obstacle race from 2028

  2. I suspect race walking will be a lot of people’s choice, but it’s strangely a quite popular Olympic event. However, if you were to go by popularity/ticket sales to make your choice I think many here would be surprised at which sports come up as least popular, attendance-wise.

Me, I pretty much enjoy them all.

  3. Modern pentathlon

It’s like a list of the least accessible sport and the equestrian event is seriously fucked up. How do you randomly attribute horses like they are tools to unskilled rider that don’t know them

  4. Football.

I find it ridiculous that the best players cannot compete because of FIFA.

  5. Dressage.. it was a dumb elitist activity ( not a sport) that I imagine hides with it more animal cruelty than has been exposed

  6. Keep them all, my favorite thing about the Olympics is the weird-ass niche sports I would never watch otherwise. Add more weird sports. Bring on artistic kayak cross or whatever.

If you’re not interested in an event, just don’t watch it. If you don’t think other swim strokes are important, just watch freestyle. People really out here criticizing race walking and rhythmic gymnastics from their couches, it’s wild.

  7. Every sport where the Olympics is not the pinnacle of the sport. So football, baseball, golf, boxing, (standard) basketball etc.

Especially the football tournament is so devalued in quality of players and teams, the medal means basically nothing.

  8. If we eliminated what everyone wants to eliminate in this thread we would have no olympics.

  9. I would remove men’s football from the Olympics as FIFA’s rules make it nothing more than a farce.

  10. I find speed walking rather silly and they all appear to cheat without repercussions. I am referring to the rule that the athlete’s back toe cannot leave the ground until the heel of the front foot has touched. There are too many photos online of multiple racers violating this rule.

  11. Everyone is quick to say equestrian events especially dressage yet nobody chooses pentathlon that has the most obvious mistreatment and quite frankly abuse towards horses. Sure there’s always a bad seed in every sport but for the most part they very much care about the welfare of their horses, many withdrawing at the slightest issue with their horse so I don’t think it’s fair to label it as a flat out abusive discipline. Those horses get more body work, better training regiments and diets than probably half the athletes in the village.

  12. None. If an organized sport has passionate players in enough countries, then the Olympics can offer a platform to meet and play. Entertainment value shouldn’t be a factor in this.

  13. This and Boxing, the judges are crooked AF. No transparency in scoring as well.

  14. Steeplechase, but I would replace it with the original steeplechase. Through rivers/creeks and over hedges. There’s no point jumping into a little puddle and saying “oh it represents a river” jump into a fucking river then.

  15. Boxing needs removing until they can sort out a consistent and clear scoring rubric that actually feels fair and understandable.

  16. I’d remove video games from the olympics before they’re even added.

Edit: Before anyone thinks this is some hate against videogames, i’ve been playing videogames since I was 4 years old and I’m 31 now. I Just don’t think they belong in the regular olympics, nor do I want the olympics’ corrupted involvement in something I love.

  17. I have a hard time seeing the justification for including sports with well-developed pro leagues or tours in the Olympics at all. Soccer/football, tennis, basketball, golf, that sort of thing.

I WANT to include the weird, niche sports that don’t have another place to shine.

  18. Football. There’s football all over the year and 3748920 different tournaments. Olympics should focus on everthing else for once.

  19. I’d be happy to get rid of the major pro sports where the Olympics aren’t the pinnacle of the sport. Sports like basketball, tennis, golf
