Letsile Tebogo was asked after winning the men’s 200m final if he aspires to world records and being the face of track and field. Here was his answer: “I can’t be the face of athletics because I’m not an arrogant or a loud person like Noah Lyles.”

Lmao we caught that smirk Kenny
I mean Noah will tell you he’s arrogant and loud so…lol
Even put in the Hard R
/s
I like him already.
Noah Lyles love attention. Look at his entrances before races. Going up to the middle of track and jumping up and down.
Face of athletics of what?
Well Tebogo has not lied yet.
Noah, leaping about, hugging people in the crowd and giving interviews when he has COVID needs dealing with.
That really is the height of arrogance.
Man, I was rooting against Noah. Not because I dislike him personally, he seems like a genuinely good person. But the message he is sending to younger people with the showboating and “I’m the main character” energy.
As we mature we realize that the “me me me” attitude is not good for society or for kids to look up to. Acting humbly is a tenet of many societies and most of the Olympians I’ve seen act as such.
I know people have different opinions, and it’s just entertainment at the end of the day. That’s just how I felt, but I wish him the best.
So true. After before yesterday, I thought Lyles was rather obnoxious and over the top. After yesterday, he is a fucking asshole.
He’s not wrong you know (just imagine the meme was here)
I suspect its partly a cultural thing. Botswana has inherited some of the British way of talking about oneself, and the native peoples also have cultures where respect and manners feature prominently. American culture, especially American sport, is very different. I’m not sure, but possibly Mohammed Ali’s style played a major part in shaping this. Brashness is seen as confidence or as part of the show,, not as “loud” or “rude”.
Only an arrogant person speaks like this

I wonder if Letsile said that without meaning it to be a negative, just a fact. Some people don’t want the spotlight.
Accurate
I don’t think he meant this in a negative way. Some athletes have that bravado & arrogance about them to psyche themselves up & others don’t. At the end of the day Noah’s still an Olympic Gold Medalist & 6 Time World Champion. He’s allowed to Talk the Talk.
He’s not wrong tho
Is he wrong? Even Kenny agrees, look at that smirk lol
Noah might be the face but this man will push the rest of the competition to their limits.
He, Kenny and Noah were the only athletes in both 100 and 200m finals.
From the world championships to Olympics, they have given nothing but their best.
I don’t think English is his first language, and judging by the way he said it I don’t think “arrogant” is the word he meant to say
Congratulations to Botswana 🇧🇼 Pula!!!
All these guys are arrogant.
Or didn’t Tebogo rip his name tag off and hold it to the camera? No, he definitely did.
Give it two weeks the world will have forgotten about lyles too
I don’t think he was criticizing Noah. Maybe just used the wrong word. Probably meant “outgoing” or “flamboyant” or “flagrant” instead of arrogant.
Damn
Doesn’t sound like a negative connotation for me, but of course he’s right Noah is more sponsor friendly there’s nothing wrong with that
Arrogance is okay if you can back it up like Usain did
Well, givin’ the ultra competitive american selection process, the winning cult and huge investments as the “best nation in the world”, no surprise that emerged the most focused, self centered and sometime a bit deranged profile among US athletes. Arrogance yes.. But very often the best of best too.
He’s not wrong, Noah is annoying as fuck. Just like at how he acted before the 200m race and after with how much he milked being sick.
That shit’s more than deserved, as an American I hate the athletes that talk non stop shit like Noah. Be a Simone!
I think sportspeople in US are encouraged to be arrogant. It’s a common trend I see across all sports. Crowds like it when sports people talk like they are in WWE lol.
Lyles and Richardson made the sport exciting. It added drama. I never watched track and field until this olympics.
This is guy is definitely African lol
Botswana is the new Jamaica, however the US is dominant.
He doesn’t seem to be saying this in a malicious way? He’s just kinda stating a fact
Q: bolt was arrogant?
Lyles is asking his body to do things it can’t do. The”show” is as much for him as for the crowd. Some athletes need this energy to perform. Look at the sidelines of a football game, and you undoubtedly will see some energy guy trying to hype up his teammates to turn things around.
I didn’t like lyles behaviour until I learned of his add. Then I understood.
He’s like Frankie Fredericks.
Noah definitely knows where the camera is 100% of the time. Hope he got a little humbled.
