Ukraine Attacks Lipetsk Airbase As Russia Fights Off Kursk Raid, 10 Killed In Donetsk Missile Attack

Ukraine pressed on with a major cross-border incursion into Russia with “massive” drone attacks hundreds of kilometres from the border. The Ukrainian military said it hit a Russian airfield in the Lipetsk region, nearly 280 km from the border, in an overnight strike on August 9. The drone strike on the Lipetsk airbase set off a chain explosion that detonated more than 700 bombs, a Ukrainian intelligence source told the Kyiv Independent. Russia’s defence ministry said its forces are still fighting a Ukrainian incursion into its western Kursk border region for the fourth day. A videos circulating online shows destroyed Russian military convoy in Kursk region as Ukrainian forces launch a cross-border assault. Meanwhile, Ukraine said a Russian missile strike on a supermarket in the town of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk region killed at least 10 people on August 9.

  11. There is no doubting the bravery of AFU soldiers on the ground who are properly trained and chose the army as a career. However, we know well by now that Zelenskyy thickens his blood stew with terrified men shadowed by "no return" militia squads such as operated at Kherson and Avdviika. Brave or fear-crazed men can reach a state of nihilism so that push and push until men they had breakfast with stare at them with dead eyes and often not in one piece but several.
    Field commanders know this and they themselves are in the cross hairs of the militia enforcers, many of whom are hired from other countries and selected for their sadism by the companies Zelenskyy gets them from. Squad commanders often speak Latvian.
    Russia will contain and eventually drive back attackers armed with western weapons but army chiefs will not risk too much damage to the homeland or losses of personnel.
    Key routes (including from behind the attackers) are already under fire control and the old nuclear power station was built with defenses around it. These are now being manned for the first time except for routine drills, thus AFU forces will not be able to progress within range. Air power and drones will cut them down in a topography giving no IR detection cover. Fire is also a huge hazard in cereal or stubble fields and could explain why Russia so far has not used incendiaries or TOS A tube weapons.
    Arithmetically, the initial PR stunt of '300 Spartans' and now growing to several thousand, including western materiel stripped from west Donbas will have the same result as Thermopylae except that there will be no single heroic name to remember.
    Only the bereaved will remember them — and who sent them to horrifying last moments of life.

    The other news that Germany has sent more Leopard sardine can tanks indicates yet another major blunder by the Scholz coalition government. The tanks are actually a long delayed batch with turret gap modifications and it would have been better if they had not been sent.
    If they are used near or inside the Russian border, Scholz, Habek and Baerbock can kiss goodbye to smuggled-in Russian gas and Germany's economic downturn will become a total collapse and the EU and Eurozone will unravel.
    This process could be quicker than was thought because political Germany is not trusted or liked. Its own biggest export is lies.
    Supply chain companies to the auto industry cannot maintain float borrowing so are going bust. Sales of German cars, trucks and buses have slumped and the VW and BMW groups are rationalizing and relying increasingly on Czech engines and transmissions. Prague will exact a price and it is looking likely that Skoda will separate and possibly associate with SEAT, with TRATON group possibly moving its HQ to Sweden for energy and financial security.

  28. Funny how the Ukrainians blame Russians for bombing markets and civilians in Eastern Ukraine but yet the civilians in Eastern Ukraine say that the Ukrainian forces bomb them and have been for a decade
