Brutal course to break the OR on. What an amazing achievement. Felt emotional watching the end, just astounding.
Absolutely phenomenal race by Tola, clearly took his training so seriously. He managed the hills far better than I thought at all possible.
I want to cry, so happy for him
Cheered for Akasaki the whole time. Great 6th place for the Japanese!
From the country of Highlands, first Ethiopian-Paris Olympic gold.
What a race that was, I never thought for a marathon there will be such a huge crowd. Congratulations to all the athletes for completing the race.
Amazing race from Tola, ridiculous strength to break the record on this absolute nightmare of a course.
Also super proud of Cairess coming 4th! Not a medal but I don’t think I expected anyone from GB that high up at all.
amazing with this hard course! he was cruising so fast uphills
Awesome race. I watched the whole race. Olympic record. Mantz annd Young did great too.
That was a fun course to watch.
What an amazing run. The way he stretched the field on the climb and then managed to extend it even further over the following k’s was unreal. The absolute grit to hold that pace to the end was insane, such a great marathon all around
And to think he was a replacement runner since his teammate had an injury and he got told he was in 2 weeks before the competition. What a win.
Really didn’t think he’d be able to hold the lead, but wow he did it! Phenomenal race! Crazy Kipchoge wasn’t even a factor. Wonder what happened?
Does anybody know what happened to Abdi Nageeye?
The german commentator oh my…. a minute before the finish line he was like: Okay the olympic record wont be obtainable anymore, but thats not important.
And then he seems like he didnt even notice Tamirat Tola olympic record… wtf! D:
I guess Tola didn’t get the memo not to go harder on the incline.
What a fucking achievement. OR on that tricky of a course is no joke.
