  1. they should give all 3 girls (Jordan & the two Romanian Gymnasts) the Bronze Medal at this point!!

  2. This is wild. Multiple failures by the admin/judges and 3 athletes have/are suffering.

  3. Allowing only 1 minute to tell the judges about THEIR mistake is ridiculous! This is all the fault of the judges, FIG and the IOC and the gymnasts should not be pemalized for any of it.

  4. They have really messed this up in how it was handled. And the problem now is that solving it is difficult and muddied in the sense that no matter what they do, it will leave everyone involved feeling bad and mistreated.

I feel horrible for all three of these fine athletes. They deserved better than this.

  5. At this point, the judges have messed up, given and taken away a medal too often. Poor athletes. They just wanted to be judged fairly and accurately. Every coach and team is going to fight for their athlete/team member to win fair and square.

Just give them each their bronze medal and do not bring these judges to LA. They can compete again in LA.

  6. And if the judges actually did their job correctly, the other Romanian should have the bronze.

  7. It’s ridiculous that they had strict standards for timing of these inquiries but they evidently failed in timekeeping. Why are we using video evidence, they should have kept time and recorded it on the inquiries. And they should not have accepted the inquiry if it was late, but it seems even that is on dispute. This is all on the FIG and event staffers

  8. They already released a statement saying it was 64 seconds… if this video evidence proves otherwise that makes them look 10x worse. Even more proof of their ineptitude.

  9. Excuse me language but Mother F***ers. I kept saying “how can they prove it was 4 seconds over?” Well looks like the proof just came forward … ohh I am now beyond furious, and it explains why the inquiry was accepted, because, it was within the time allotted.

CAS needs to fix this, it’s their job … and no, it shouldn’t take 2 freaken years either.

I swear, they made the decision quick to remove the medal before the end of the Olympics

Even more, shame on all these people for what they are causing the athletes, as they wipe their hands of this mess they caused

  10. Maybe a hot take or not, but honestly, the only person potentially getting a bronze metal is the one person who doesn’t actually win it. Because if Jordan‘s score stands then Barbosu is in fourth, and if her teammates score is corrected for the penalty (out of bounds deduction) that shouldn’t have been a penalty, then Barbosu is fourth or fifth depending on how you score Jordan, either way Barbosu shouldn’t be getting a bronze… I would be pissed if I was her teammate.

  11. If this is legit and FIG doesn’t back down, then this could get messy. I wouldn’t want to be a FIG employee right now.

  12. How do you like them apples?

Make a petty decision on a superficial technicality and get it tossed right back at them.

  13. What a clusterfuck. All the athletes are getting out through a lot of stress and dealing with toxic people online because the officials can’t do their job.

  14. The best thing to do now imo is to let Chiles keep her Bronze and give an additional one or two to the Romanians, terrible from the judges to put them through this

  15. This is getting to be like Formula 1 levels of litigating after the fact. I didn’t expect to see this here.

Just award a bronze to each woman at this point. This whole giving it, taking it away for someone, now possibly taking it back and giving it back…I cannot even imagine what it’s like for all three of them. I’m angry for them. It’s a colossal eff-up by these organizations that should know how to run these events, given that they set the rules and procedures.

  16. Everyone was saying the trial/case had everything presented before both sides as well as the CAS, FIG and IOC. But it sounds like the US had no idea what Romania presented. Doesn’t that sound messed up?

  17. Maybe this is just me, but I feel like CAS should only be allowed to rule on outside factors for sport and not on judging, or officiating, or anything procedural within the confines of the athletic event itself.

If there is evidence of a judge accepting bribes, rule on that. If an athlete submitted false information to skirt rules that would otherwise prevent competing, rule on that. If a team engaged in espionage by setting up recording equipment in another team’s locker or hotel, rule on that.

Imagine the Bengals are in the Super Bowl down by 2 points, they are driving to get within field goal range. They try to get some extra yards with under 10 seconds left. They hit a pass near the sideline and the ref calls out of bounds with 1 second left. They kick a field goal to win. Then the next day the losing team goes to the Supreme Court and says that the ref blew his whistle for the out of bounds 1 second too early and that the game should have ended. So the NFL tells the Bengals, they didn’t win and they take back their rings and trophy and award it to the team everyone thought lost.

Even if the inquiry was 4 seconds late, in my opinion it is up to the judges at the time of the event to determine if the inquiry was on time or not. If they incorrectly rule that it was on time, when really it was 4 seconds late, then an outside court should not go back days later to correct that error. The initial appeal is fine, since it is still within the event itself.

This whole thing makes gymnastics look like an absolute joke to casual fans. What’s the point of watching or following gymnastics if the score at the end of the event can be changed by some random ass court probably only 10 people in the world ever even knew existed? Yeah, judges and refs messing up sucks. You know what else is worse? Sucking all of the fun out of sport and competition by turning it into some dry ass legal proceedings.
