Thai constitutional court bans popular politician Pita Limjaroenrat, dissolves party • FRANCE 24

Thailand’s most popular politician was banned from politics for 10 years and his party dissolved on Wednesday over his attempt to reform the kingdom’s archaic royal defamation laws. The ruling means that Pita Limjaroenrat, 43, who led the reformist Move Forward Party (MFP) to a shock first place in a general election last year, will be barred from taking any role in politics for the next decade. France 24′ correspondent on Thailand, Matt Hunt, has more.

  1. Thank you to the court for dissolving the Move Forward Party. This party has supporters who say that foreigners are interfering in our politics. We have our own independence.

  2. As Thai citizens, I wish USA take over my country rather than lets these peoples living on their powers. This is actually good opportunity for those who want to take advantages of Thailand. Because most populations doesn’t support the monarchy at all.

  3. THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM: The ruling Politicians did what they needed to do to hang on to their very lucrative Government positions in the long-term. This is all about power and Government jobs which produces prodigious amounts of personal wealth via corrupt dealings. How can they possibly ask to respect the Thai judicial process when Thailand is now a laughing stock on the world democracy stage?

All will be forgiven when the people get their 10000 baht digital wallet.

  4. "The King and I" is banned in Thailand under the same law.

The musical takes place around 1880, and is based on the story of an ethnically English Indian woman, Anna, who was hired to teach the children of King Mongkut, including Chulalongkorn the Great. She moved to Australia afterward and wrote a book on the experience.

  5. Would be great if all the youtube fan would understanding the explanation of the judge. As a Thai, I must say more and more people and getting to understand that this dissolved party has only one goal was that to weaken the constitution. WHY WHY WHY??? All I see that all the Monarch has been doing great job for the country, contributing their effort, funds, resources, donate many pieces of land for public uncountable time, this is fact. Our monarch pay taxes from every of their income. Whenever there was disaster, the first to give help was ALWAYS the monarch contributing from his own pocket. And why this political party always tried to criticize, telling unprovable lie, persuade people to hate our constitution. This is against the laws, the law that was written long before this country was established. And why our court should not act and judge according to the laws. WHY??

  6. Thailand, a country with high corruption for 50 years due to the old government in parliament, laws written for the powerful, fake democracy, no empathy for the people, no justice, the opposing party that won the election is not the government and has been dissolved.

  7. Thai monarchy is like a crochroch who survived from the holocaust!
There is no law in this kingdom! It's puppeting by the celestial monarchy. 😊

  8. It is justified. They should have foreseen it coming since day one they did it. Brainwash movement goes on for the fans.
I don't think they are popular, I think they manipulated the outcome of election.

  9. This party ought to be criminally charged for its magical cyber army that altered all social media and news.
Heavily popular among LGBTQ doesn't mean you should win majority of the demographic voters, according to its major policies were mostly lofty, exorbitally and especially hateful.

  10. Dear Nong Pita,
Allow me to explain it plainly to you.
One of the fundaments of democracy is that the people who are to govern a country must have a majority in a parliament. Being the biggest party doesn’t guarantee that you have the majority of the seats. If you don’t have enough seats to form a stable government you have to form a coalition with other members of the parliament. These other people have to trust you and be sure that your political agenda is not in conflict with their values, political views and programs which gain them support of their voters.
You were unsuccessful to convince these people to form a coalition.
If you want an example to better understand this process please check the last election results of a EU member, a democratic Poland. By far the biggest party failed to form a government and is now in opposition. It is just one instance but there are many around the world.
This is how democracy works. It is never perfect and each country is always on the path to improve it, some nations have gone further than others in certain areas. Thailand is also doing it.
Perhaps an evolution would have made you more credible, but you chose to propose a revolution.
Another majority you failed to consider is that of support of monarchy.
The majority of Thai people are in favor of it. Because the King is not hungry of neither power or money.
Our history shows that it often served as a protector against politicians who were corrupt and after personal gains.
Ruling of a country is a service you do to the people, it is not about bringing your own Ego to the next huge level.
Your party got dissolved because of the constitution violation.
Like it or not we have one in Thailand and all of us have to obey it.
Flying around the world and spitting on your own country, telling half-truths will not gain you more respect. What could help you over time is to let the brain do its work before your mouth speaks.
To many people you are like spoiled kid whose diapers are full and it is smelly and annoying, crying for attention. Grow up! Be a man. Learn how to lose with dignity. You have 10 years to get wiser. Not that I expect anything because you haven’t learned anything from your failure and that is what would be needed to make improvements.

  11. Dear Friends and Allies,
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the many countries in the UN and the numerous ambassadors of various countries who have shown their support for us. Your unwavering support and vocal opposition to the dissolution of the Move Forward Party have been a beacon of hope for many in Thailand who believe in democracy, political pluralism, and the right to peaceful advocacy.
Your commitment to upholding democratic values and human rights is deeply appreciated. It reassures us that we are not alone in our pursuit of a just and inclusive society. Together, we can continue to strive for a future where diverse voices are heard, respected, and protected.
Thank you for your solidarity and for championing the principles of freedom and democracy.
    With sincere appreciation

  14. In your country, when someone breaks the law, what do you do? Our democracy is based on the rule of law, the King is the head of state, has no political power and is subject to the law. We hope you will learn Thailand from comprehensive and sufficient information. Thank you.

  15. In your country, when someone breaks the law, what do you do? Our democracy is based on the rule of law, the King is the head of state, has no political power and is subject to the law. We hope you will learn Thailand from comprehensive and sufficient information. Thank you.

  16. Thailand has been governed by democracy form under "monarchy." Our country is not ruled by "western" democracy. The party was deserved to be banned because the party tried to overthrow the monarchy system. 😂😊

  17. The Move Forward Party is not Pita, but the Move Forward Party is what most people in this country want. Most people choose this party because they want social and political change, and they want the king not to be a tool for evil politicians who use this issue to bully each other, even though they call themselves good people, patriots, and religious lovers. But most of them never see the people. Those evil politicians are all cheaters and corrupt, and the military is behind these evil actions.
