After Ukraine began its invasion of Russia’s Kursk region, the number of confirmed Ukrainian brigades in and around the invasion zone has grown to at least five: four army mechanized brigades and one brigade from the Independent Attack Aviation Force.
According to Forbes, in total these units could include up to 10,000 troops and 600 armored vehicles.
“In four days, five brigades have partially or completely occupied about 400 square miles of the Kursk region and captured dozens of Russian troops. The brigades may not be staying in Russia, but there are currently no signs that they are slowing down their attacks,” Forbes writes.

As the article recalls, in the first hours of the Ukrainian offensive, the direct participation of three brigades was confirmed: the 22nd and 88th mechanized brigades, as well as the 80th airborne assault brigade.

But on Thursday, the 116th Mechanized Brigade posted a video taken by the Horn drone group showing the brigade’s tanks and armored personnel carriers moving toward Kursk. A day later, the 61st Mechanized Brigade also made its presence known in a video from the Russian town of Sudzha.

Additionally, the 49th Artillery Brigade is about 30 miles from the site of the Battle of Kursk. Also in the area is the 27th Artillery Brigade, which is the only HIMARS operator, Forbes notes.

On Friday, for example, a video was released showing a HIMARS attacking a column of Russian troops moving toward Kursk. Pictures taken after the attack showed seven destroyed trucks and many dead soldiers.

The shelling helps explain how the Ukrainians were able to advance so far and so quickly. The artillery appears to be preventing fresh Russian troops from reaching the battlefield, Forbes notes.

At the same time, the article emphasizes that the artillery blockade reduces one of the main dangers for the Ukrainian operation – the risk that Russia will isolate Ukrainian units.

“But the Russians can’t isolate the Ukrainians unless they can break through Ukrainian artillery to attack the supply lines of the main Ukrainian forces. And every day of delay cements the Ukrainians’ gains as more units arrive in Kursk,” Forbes notes.

  1. Well maybe Zelensky is trying to make a suggestion to end this war!
Since Putin wants Ukraine so bad, maybe they can swap countries…😂😂😂

  2. ALL BULLSHIT PROPAGANDA BY THE WEST 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
TRYING TO JUSTIFY KEEPING THE MONEY LAUNDERING OPPERATION GOING FULL SPEED AHEAD…🎉🎉🎉

  3. The Russian CAS have been missing from this fight. It may be a combination of F-16 fever and p!ss poor leadership? Why or where is POO-Tin's air force hiding?

  4. the real question is how long they can control that 🙂 and how many sources it will costs. The main objective of mission already failed, they will never controll nuclear plant in Kursk

  6. The interesting question we will see is that can Ukraine actually hold the land, and what are the casualties in the end. They didn't seem to be against experienced army units in the beginning of the incursion, but now they will be faced with harder troops, artillery and FABs. Ukraine should do more of the 'keep quiet" attacks, but the real test that was this really worth is still to be seen. Seems like the Russia is still gaining in the East, and what will be the overall cost of this operation. It is a bit early to tell if this will affect the war in a positive way, one goal I think was met that it did put Ukraine back into the front pages, which is important for support. This is not without its risks, I would wait a little before jumping into conclusions yet, hope is that Ukraine can achieve more from this than PR and Western headlines thus support, but actual land to have some bargaining chips for negotiations. For that the battle is just beginning, and it will be bloody, some brave men who are taking part in this, as not everyone will return. Let's hope for the best. F 💩tin.

  7. A Russian friend of mine was always critical of Putin and talked in favor of peace, also because he's a businessman.
However, now he is furious. The Russians are rallying behind Putin against NATO-backed aggression.
