Ukraine-Russia war: How long can Ukraine hold Kursk?
Our security and defence analyst Professor Michael Clarke suggests that while its capture by Ukraine is impressive, it may not make strategic sense to hold Kursk long-term.

Medvedev statements: "The damage caused to the Kursk region due to the attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine must be recorded in the registry of damage inflicted on Russia by its enemies, so that they can be billed for it later," Medvedev stated.
"We still need to finalize how we will collect from them later—and we definitely will collect," he added.
Our leaders brought us to this dangerous situation. And we'll have to pay for it?
Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦🇺🇸❣️💙
Fake news! Russia is doing already mop-up operations! Ukraine lost about 1500 KIA.
Dont forget that Ukraine are using soldiers away from their main front. Seems desperate.
When the birds grabs the sling
Proper expert not like the Times radio poser
Professor Michael Clarke is the Chuck Norris of warsplaining.
Well Ukraine doesn’t occupy Kursk so……
How about using Kilometres?
Ukrainian News Outlets legitimately/not are claiming to have started building fortifications/trench systems with industrial size heavy equipment to hold the sector!
They've also released cell phone video of abandoned, fully fueled & armed BMP's, Tanks so their resources are expanding instead of decreasing if true! The second part of the claim is that these were conscription soldier's who abandoned their PC's & Tanks rather than face battle hardened troops of Ukraine so were Russia's going to get a large enough special force that isn't already on the front lines is a mystery
Ukraine will be watching very carefully to see where the Russians get their response troops from.
Ukraine put themselves in Russia's cauldron. Usually Russia attempts to create a cauldron but before it ends, Ukraine will withdraw before the cauldron completes. Avdiivka is an exception. Massive surrender on that one.
It's all about Logistics and resupply. Ukraine cannot allow overstretch.
Yes I like this professional analysis.
Lies lies lies 😂😂😂
here we go …analyst🤣
Wait until winter. We'll see how long they hold out.
No dudan "Ucrania", sidan la OTAN
The WH needs to let Ukraine have some victories and stop second guessing them all the time. Theres an obvious opportunity here for encircling Russian forces in Kharkiv and disrupting Russian supply lines. Gaining territory to trade for Ukrainian territory in negotiations.
Battle of the bulge !
wow so many "experts" here with zero knowledge about Ukraine or Russia but they still wanna share their "extremely valuable" opinions.
This strategy is going to lead to more Ukraine losses
Now is the best time for western allies to reiterate commitment to Ukraine and promise more military aid.
This guy is much smarter than those idiots on CNN.
He's right, at some point the Ukrainians will have to get the hell out, but they may have reached the outskirts of Moscow when that happens.
Excellent military analysis!
Clarke is back to serve us his BS and bias analysis. Watching back his daily update last year and noticing how he is bull of nonsense.
They are including recon units in the area the Ukraine control. Just because a recon unit gets to a certain point and ultimately gets destroyed, doesn't mean they control the area.
So what is Ukraine's strategic goal for this incursion into Russia. I understand from some reports half of their initial advance forces have already been neutralised.
Proper topic should be
"How Ukraine hold 3.5% of Kursk Region?"
Im not a war expert but…….i dont think this will age well .,
…they entered into a thinly defended line……i mean a surprise attack ,an ambush is good for short term, but what about long term, will they hold?? And this is russian Territory, their response will obviously be more lethal……i feel like the soldiers we forced into a suicide mission, its like zeleny and team are desperate, this wasnt the counter attack we expected atleast not how it should be,regaining occupied territories……..this wont age well……lets not get excited yet its too early
sounds like Mikey was in the pub before the show. Did putin buy sky news?
Ballsy..go Ukraine!
How long can Russia hold Kursk. Ukrainians can hold anything they want obviously
militarily speaking it may not be the best move, it achieves little to nothing if the Russians maintain focus on the Ukrainian fronts, puts all the Ukrainian troops there in a vulnerable position, and gives Russia an amazing propaganda piece to rally the public in support of the war, which is likely a main reason Russia allows it to go on unchecked
Ukraine's biggest successes of this war are long range drone and missile attacks on Russian infrastructure both military and civilian, it's the only thing they really can do to achieve at least some points in this conflict, other than that they are slowly but surely getting hammered losing their territory and troops on a daily basis, it is an unbalanced conflict they simply don't have the manpower for it versus Russia, the only real gain from this particular action is for their own propaganda to rally their own public, and western supporters, while it's possible this move can release some pressure off the fronts in Ukraine, mainly its just those long range attacks on Russian military and industrial sites that actually hurts the Russians
never the less, Ukraine's only long term hope is a truce and favorable agreement, every day this conflict goes on hurts Ukraine even more, they simply can't handle the ongoing massive loss of life to their population, about a year after the Russian invasion was about the point where their losses became genuinely unsustainable, and when a ceasefire should have been undertaken, they would have had more territory than now, and been in a more favorable negotiating position
the saving grace for Ukraine, is that Russia has proven unwilling to completely bash their civilian population and cities, they are lucky Russia considers them close cousins, otherwise Ukraine would be in such ruins to take a century to fix back up, rather than decades as is the case now
In reality do the Russians have better units. All the most professional soldiers were killed and injured in the original invasion. The best units are fighting now in the Donbas and Luhansk. Remember the Russian army has been decimated over the past two years. They’ve only got the dregs. The Ukraine now have some of the best western hard wear and have the bit between their teeth. Wagner got as far as 200 miles from Moscow with Prigozhin mutiny. This is a far better fighting force than Prigozhin Wagner. That’s why Putin doesn’t know what to do? He’s floundering! It’s all bluster by him!
As an enthusiast on military history pity he doesnt do his own show on warfare through the ages giving his own analysis not sure if hes written any books. I think he was a student of another great military historian of the pass Michael Howard. Him and another expert still alive called Brian Bond founded the Strategic Studies at Kings College where Lawrence Freedman holds the Chair now. Hes written a book analysing the Ukrainian War.
Michael Clarke is great. Please also bring back Sean Bell!
So we're all going to act like Israel didn't protest for the right to r+pe prisoners just 2 weeks ago? Like the people, Israeli citizens, booked a day off to protest against their military, for the right to r+pe prisoners? And we're all going to act like they are, right now, not committing genocide or that the UK is complicit?
Jonathan Pearce ATP politics has more detailed analysis with real footage.
They is good for a TV audience, but not for these follow daily
