  1. This is rigga morris! It’s making me lose my respect for the internal logistics of the IOC. This will set a toxic precedent for which athletes and coaches can whine until they get whatever they want. This also makes it clear that racism plays a part in the judgment of the IOC and their friend, Nadia Comaneci. I don’t think that the country of Romania will get a warm welcome once they step foot on Los Angeles soil in 2028.

  2. I gifted this article, so hopefully everyone can access it through the paywall.

  3. Wait, are these the people who are refusing to review the evidence that shows that her appeal was indeed called at 46 seconds, and not 4 seconds late as they had previously stated??

  4. So basically it was an inside job. Nope, no medal being returned with this funny business.

  5. If this judge was partial to Romania, then why wouldn’t they boost the score of the other Romanian Athlete, who was incorrectly deducted for stepping out of bounds and ACTUALLY earned the Bronze. Again. even the Romanian players are advocating for all three of these athletes to share the Bronze. Unfortunately, this NYT article panders to anti-Romanian sentiment which runs rampant worldwide.

  6. These people aren’t going to risk and compromise their career to have an agenda against an athlete.

Hand the medal over and move on. She only got it because of poor judging anyway when they said the girl was out and she wasn’t. Pathetic

  7. The American Olympic Committee should simultaneously ban all current members of any committee or body involved in this from participating in the 2028 Olympics and forbid Chiles from returning her medal (to provide PR cover for her).

  8. Ah corruption. This person should be stripped of any authority. This is disgraceful to the Olympics. Jordan keep your medal. I sincerely hope you are back in the US with it.

  9. Oh look, an excuse for more Romania hate!

These judges are appointed RANDOMLY. Or maybe you think Romania also controls the odds in which case maybe I should play the lottery!

Anyway, I’d be surprised if this amounts to anything since this guy is a lawyer who pretty much represents everybody that pays him.

  10. Not surprising. I’ve been saying it was a conspiracy and I was told by plenty of people how dead wrong I was.

  11. I find it interesting that the CAS even has an allowance in their policies regarding disclosing conflicts of interest that involves justifying why the conflict will not affect the arbiter’s judgement of a case.

Part of my undergrad degree was an ethics course, and part of my professional licensure was passing an ethics examination. Funny enough, I don’t remember learning about different levels of conflict of interest.

It was pretty clear in what I learned: if there’s even a question of conflict of interest the only ethical decision is to recuse yourself.
