I got curious how often does news about Ukraine make it to the front page, and so I cycled through the digital archive of NYT front pages to count how many issues mention Ukraine.
I must admit that a line chart would be a much more effective way to visualize this data. But it’s not as fun or beautiful.

Feedback, I would flip your orientation vertically with oldest at the top and 2024 at the bottom to match a normal reading pattern, where you walk the months left to right then go down a row for the next year
I expected july 2014 to be much darker, because of the MH17 mass murder
What has the Trump impeachment to do with Ukraine that it caused that big of a spike?
Why is it upside down and scale inverted?
I was confused at first. Normally hotter color is higher value, and read from top to bottom.
