Baked my first pork pies to impress in-laws in South Carolina. The hot water crust pastry was a triumph. But the meat filling wasn’t great – I blame the American meat.

  1. Did you do any “jelly” filling? It’s the one thing that has stopped me from trying to make my own – I’m not sure where I’d find the ingredients around here (SoCal)!

    Your pastry looks good!

  2. Substandard meat aside, I applaud your reputable attempt and if I were a South Carolina in-law, I’d be duly impressed!

  3. You can’t take the blame for the meat. They’ve banished so many laws we have that you likely bought cancer in a pig, with extra hormones and chemicals… because americans don’t care..

  4. Yeah, the meat here is awful. I’m just jealous you got your in-laws to approve of something you made, my husband’s mother hates me in general and none of the family seem to be big on Yorkshire puddings

  5. I mean they do look bloody amazing so atleast you know next time to just change the meat
