    If Russia gets the territories back at some point: “Look, the Ukrainians have looted everything!”

  10. Russian society has a strong link to primitive “survival of the fittest” mentality. That’s what this looting is. Russia like to pretend it’s a first world country but it really isn’t, which is why they spend billions on a new army instead of a better society. It’s also why they gravitate to countries like in Africa, that 3rd world primitive menatilty is just where they’re at.

    Putin had a chance to bring Russia into the 21st century, and instead he doubled down on medieval values, and bringing war to Russia again.

  21. Anyone who’s ever had the trucks stop rolling in and restocking the shelves at the local shops knows how long it takes before you need to start thinking outside the box to get your food.

  22. It’s sad that they have to upload footage like this to demonstrate their innocence of looting when it’s the neighbours doing it.

  23. First of all, that isn’t a problem particular to Russia. We had looting during hurricanes in the US and floods in Germany. You will always have people living close to you who have absolutely no problems with taking your stuff if they think they can get away with it.

    However, the problem in Russia is that the country never really had what might be called a “civil society”. Private property never had the kind of protection it “enjoys” in other countries. In Russia you always sort of had what you could hold on to until someone more powerful or more ruthless came along and simply took it away from you. That is why many Russians seem so casual about looting and pillaging. If you have power or opportunity then the “right to take” is yours.

    So this scene is, on a small scale, an illustration what the Ukrainians are fighting against. They don’t want to be Russian because there is an alien set of “values” attached to that culture they don’t want to live by.
