  1. If I understand correctly there is another Romanian that should have gotten the Bronze instead, where they also made mistake in grading her performance? So it should be the other one 3rd, Chiles 4th, and Barbosu 5th?

    What a mess…

  2. Yo Ana, I’m really happy for you, Imma let you finish. But Jordan had one of the best routines of all time! One of the best routines of all time!

  3. As a huge Jordan stan; Ana has handled this with so much class and graciousness. I hope that she doesn’t receive anymore bullying/ harassment that she’s received from some within the FRG.

  4. What’s sad about this is that this is the first Olympic medal for Romania in 12 years, and a medal and moment that could’ve symbolized a former powerhouse making its ascent back to the top is now going to be associated with one of the biggest scoring controversies in Olympic history. I’m happy for Ana because a) her floor was so gorgeous and b) she’s been very graceful about this whole situation, but i wish that they had just done a shared bronze from the beginning because what they did to Jordan was fucked up.

  5. You shouldn’t get a bronze medal unless you were third best. Who was third best? That person should get the bronze and no one else. Any sport that is determined solely by judges will always be dicey and open to scrutiny.

  6. That’s the spirit, Ana! Hoping for that day too when all three of you stand proud with your medals.

  7. I would not feel happy celebrating this.  She deserves it. So does Jordan. And the other Romanian as well. This is all hot garbage.

  8. Her accomplishment will always be tainted by the massive incompetence and corruption of the FIG and CAS. It’s a sad moment for all sports. They should’ve just admitted their mistake and given all three women bronze. Now the FIG has lost any legitimacy it once had in the world and should be removed from judging future Olympics. Hopefully the US will do the right thing in 2028 and ban FIG officials from entering the country.

  9. I saw the ceremony and I love that she seemed happy. She was saying she needs to prepare for the Bacalaureat (graduation) exam next year… wow, that really put it in perspective how young she is and the crap people say about her seems even worse now! Also, apparently she’s a good student and she’s planning on going to Law school!

Shame on the people calling her “undeserving” and the judges for tarnishing this experience for her and the other girls!

  10. Here is a rundown…..

When the initial scoring was done, Ana (Romania) won the bronze.

The coach of Jordan (USA) put in an appeal more or less immediately. The appeal was accepted and Jordan was given the bronze. Around this time, Jordan’s coach expressed surprise that her appeal was accepted because it is rare for scoring to be changed.

Poor Ana was heartbroken on camera.

After the medal ceremony, the Romanians looked at videos from multiple angles and found that Sabrina (Romania) was unfairly given a points deduction. Her coach did not file an appeal within the required timelines (which is basically immediately). But they did not have access to the video until after the medal ceremony.

This led the Romanians to say all three should share the bronze.

At this point, the governing body claims that Jordan’s coach put her appeal after the *very short* time limit. USA Gymnastics disputes this.

There is a feeling among the Romanians that the USA was given the medal because the USA is big and powerful.

Meanwhile, Jordan was getting a lot of abuse online. Much of it was directly anti-black racism. This leads many people to feel the whole thing is about race.

A lot of Americans feel very intensely pro-Jordan. I think some of this is just nationalism, some of it is about the racism Jordan has experienced. But she only wins if her appeal is taken. If everyone was scored correctly, Sabrina wins. As /u/Hot_Schedule3667 put it in another thread “this is a sports event, not a “who can play bureaucracy best” event.”

I think at this point, all three should share the bronze and the scoring should be changed. FIFA has a video referee system to avoid errors like this. There is no reason gymnastics couldn’t do the same. It shouldn’t come down to who filed an appeal and when.

  11. Look — there is no way to have three bronze medalists. Only one person finishes in each place.

That said, if any member of the IOC wants to be welcome in NATO country, they should fix this.

You cannot strip America of a medal. Period.

Now, unfortunately, Jordan Chiles bowed to an Argentinian. So she doesn’t need it back, but America does.

  12. Someone help me out. Who’s the third athlete involved in this?

    Side Note:

I don’t understand how one of the most popular sports at the Olympics can have so many scoring issues? Like how the fuck do they have the difficulty score of the routine recorded incorrectly? And how the fuck are they gona tell Jordan she was 4 seconds too late to point out THEIR OWN FUCKUP?

  13. Captain Hector Barbosa sure has some lovely daughters, be they from the Carribean or the Black Sea. Avast! 🏴‍☠️

  14. I think giving each of them a bronze medal would have been the best solution to this messy situation.

From my understanding, the sanctioning body messed up, not the athletes themselves. So unless they’re caught cheating or doping or something, once they win, they win. That’d be like the officials in a ball sport taking a goal away after the game is over.

  15. It’s wild to think that none of this would have happened if Jordan didn’t go last.
